People trust someone who admits a flaw more than someone who acts perfect

It’s called the Pratfall Effect. People become more likeable when they aren’t perfect.

The relative who never helped you will always have the most advice

Every African family has that one relative who was silent when life was hard.

When school fees were a problem, they were not there.

When rent was pressing your neck, they were nowhere.

When you were jobless, broke, stressed and trying to survive, they acted like they did not know your number.

But the moment you start looking better, dressing better, travelling small, posting soft life or making a little money, they suddenly become family elders.

They will call you proud, say you have changed and remind you that family is everything.

They will advise you on humility like they were present during your suffering.

The funniest part is they never ask how you survived. They only want to know why you are no longer available for everybody.

African families can love you deeply, but some relatives only remember blood when they see progress
