What To Expect After 80,000 Miles

What To Expect After 80,000 Miles

Currently own a 2017 Alltrack. It has just hit 80,000 miles. Nice little car and I see no reason to give it up. It has the DSG transmission and has only had a few minor issues. I am retired and drive maybe 100 miles per week.

If I wanted to keep it long term, what are potential issues I may see? Is the 1.8t fairly bulletproof? How about the DSG gearbox?

I Just Need Some Loving

Went to the shelter today to walk dogs and hang out with a sweet stray Shepherd. She showed up last week and has been VERY shy. I figured - correctly - that me bringing more dried sardine dog treats would sway her.
Before I could get to her kennel, one of the pitties caught my attention. He just showed up so hasn’t been evaluated yet. But he gave me those puppy dog eyes.
I gave him a treat and went into his kennel. He IMMEDIATELY made himself comfortable on my lap and insisted on cleaning my ears. What a friendly boy. I had to share. I ended up sitting with him for about half an hour. Sorry for the bad picture.

Anyway, he’s located in Pomona, California - about 30 miles east of Los Angeles. He will be a great addition to a family.

The picture of the Shepherd is for reference. She’s now my BFF.

What Second Car Would You Get?

As the title says, I’m curious what the community thinks about a second EV for the household. We currently own a 2022 Ford Mach-e California Route One. It has about 60,000 miles and we’re very happy with it. We also own a 2017 VW Golf Alltrack with about 80,000 miles.
Both my wife and I are retired. We have one son still at home for about a year or so.
I honestly hate driving the VW, as it is noisy, requires gasoline, and is getting older. Was thinking about a second used EV to handle the around-town driving. I probably put on about 100 miles a week. I’m looking at something with a decent size, as I’m 6’4”.
I don’t really want a Leaf. I’ve looked at the used Tesla Model S and Y cars. Also maybe a Kia Niro EV. I’m curious what y’all would look into. Of course, we noticed the prices of used EV’s are climbing right now. Maybe I’d wait awhile?

Help To Avoid UTI in Elderly Female

Looking for advice. I have a JRT mix. She just turned 16 this month. For the past three years, she’s been diagnosed as having diabetes mellitus. I control her blood sugar by giving her 13u of Vetsulin after each meal. She’s been really good, EXCEPT - she has been regularly getting a UTI.

Her vet will treat the UTI with antibiotics. She responds well but has been getting a reoccurring infection. The vet suggested I buy Duoxo S3 wipes. I use these on her vagina at night. She sleeps in a bed in our room.

After the last UTI, I remembered my mom (who is 83 and also gets UTI’s) saying to take cranberry. I bought some Naturvet Cranberry Relief chews. She’s been taking them and seems to have avoided another UTI for more than two months.

My question for you is this: anything else I should be doing? Thanks in advance!!

How Common are Brindle Pitties?

I was at the shelter again today walking the pups. I had already walked three Shepherds and was planning on getting a husky I know. One of the shelter workers pulled me aside and suggested I go see a new dog, who was an owner drop off.

I approached the kennel and she immediately started wiggling and hopping. I gave her a treat and went in.

Within seconds, she was in my lap and making sure my face was throughly cleaned.

This is the first time I’ve met a brindle colored pitttie. How rare are they

Pitbulls Are Supposed to be good guard dogs, right?

I’m currently in Baja California. Walked by this house with this cute pit and his buddy in the front courtyard
. Instead of barking at me, the pitbull stuck his nose through the gate and waited for scratches.
Meanwhile, the Chihuahuas next-door were barking furiously at me.

Me wants cuddles!!

Saw this cute boi while volunteering at the shelter. I can’t walk him yet but went into his kennel. Ended up spending half an hour just holding him in my lap. I’m still holding him while writing this.

Looking to go fishing in La Paz Mexico in June. I will be flying there with my son (23) and we hope to do some offshore fishing. We're both fairly experienced but obviously won't be bringing our own tackle on the trip.

We just went on a full day offshore out of San Diego last week. We ended up bagging three yellowtail - yum! I expect we'll be going for wahoo, yellowtail and possibly bluefin or yellowfin.

Wonder what experiences people have traveling. I keep seeing ads for Tailhunter.

What are your opinions?
