Advice Painting Color Over New “Matte Black” PP & ABS Parts
I have a rear spoiler and spats that I bought to take a crack at painting something with an Eastwood rattle can automotive paint code and some 2k clear in my garage. I’ve spray painted a bunch of stuff over the years with good results but I’m not super educated on the subject and want to give myself the best shot at good results here. The spoiler is pretty much rigid and is ABS. The spats are flexible, are made of PP and will have to bend slightly when they’re fastened to the car. Both parts came with a matte black finish from the factory that seems pretty nice and even. The color I’m painting is the newer Honda bright blue called boost or racing blue pearl depending on market.
- this color and 2k clear from a can going to be ok on a flexible part like the PP spats?
- what grit would you sand? 800? 1000?
- Primer? Adhesion promoter? Scuff and paint since they’re already finished? …What’s your recommendation on process?
I’ve seen bulldog recommended in videos etc but I saw a recent post here where someone said it’s lacking a chemical to make it effective on PP.
Happy to provide any other info you need! Thanks in advance!!! 😊
