Introducing the Kids to BTAS and DCAU

I took the plunge and decided that my oldest (11) was old enough to begin watching Batman: The Animated Series, and it has been a wild success. She's not a superhero nerd like her old man, but she's enjoying the series, and as a Star Wars fan, appreciates the heck out of the fact that Mark Hammill is in the series.

And my 6 year old is also enjoying it, admitting that while it was "kinda scary", she still enjoyed it.

Superman and Justice League are in the future, naturally, and I can't wait.

But I want to put a shout-out to all the parents out there; Batman Beyond is obviously for an older audience, and it's definitely a darker, slightly nastier take on Gotham. I don't want to traumatize them unneccesarily (no 6-year-old needs to see Return of the Joker), but I also want to explore the whole story with them.

Did any of you introduce your kids to Batman Beyond at a young age? Did it work, did they not like it, give me your stories, and thank you.

White Screen Homepage

On my PC, my Youtube homepage loads normally, and even shows videos for 1-2 seconds before and blinks and turns into a white screen, although I can still see the menu on the left hand side.

Now, if I search for a video, it works fine, and it still plays videos with no problem, there's just a blank page for the homepage.

I've tried disabling ad blocker, clearing cookie cache, I've disabled graphics acceleration, disabled and reabled watch history, all the recommened steps online.  Still a white screen. Any suggestions?

Serenity Was Doing It First

This is not a Sabaton hate post, just a shout-out to one of my favorite and under-discussed Austrian metal bands, Serenity, who were doing the historical based metal thing, but, IMO, better and with more finesse.

There's Only One Answer

If you want to get into Star Wars, why not start with the film that was, once upon a time, simply called Star Wars?

Brandon Sanderson Remembered Something We Forgot

I know it's become popular to dunk on Sanderson since Wind and Truth came out, but I'm not here to talk about that.

I saw this line from the afterword he wrote to the tenth anniversary edition of his first book Elantris, that holds resonance for me as a Star Wars and Luke Skywalker fan:

>Raoden [the main character], in turn, was inspired by my desire to tell a story--for a change--about a man who didn't have a deep tortured past. A man who was simply a decent person put into a horrible situation.

I appreciate the hell out of this, and I don't understand why it's such a hard concept for people to grasp. Luke Skywalker, Steve Rogers, Superman, Aragorn, noble characters don't have to be boring. The Logan formula isn't always necessary, and it doesn't always work.

Anyway, food for thought, reasons for hope. Check out Elantris.
