Got admitted to Weimar (CSDM) vs waiting for BTU Cottbus (Cyber Security M.Sc.) Advice for a Cybersecurity career?
Hi everyone,
I recently received an offer for the M.Sc. Computer Science for Digital Media (CSDM) at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
My personal passion is Cybersecurity / Product Security / Application Security. While CSDM is primarily known for HCI and media systems, I know it has a "Security and Data Science" track with modules in cryptography and secure channels.
However, I am also waiting on the results for the M.Sc. Cyber Security at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, which is a dedicated, specialized security program covering system security, network security, software security, and forensics.
I’d love to hear from current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with these universities/programs:
Bauhaus Weimar (CSDM):
For anyone who focused on the security/cryptography track in CSDM, how deep does the technical security content actually go? Is it respected by employers in Germany for general software/security engineering roles?
BTU Cottbus (Cyber Security):
How is the quality of the dedicated M.Sc. Cyber Security at BTU Cottbus in terms of practical coursework, labs, and career outcomes?
The Decision:
Is it worth waiting for BTU Cottbus given my passion for security, or can I build a strong cybersecurity career out of Weimar's CSDM by choosing security electives and research projects?
Any insights on student life, course depth, or job market outcomes for either program would be super helpful!
Thanks in advance!
