My new and first prescription advice. Should it be like that?

Hello everyone!

For the context: I was living my whole life (almost 30 years) without glasses, thinking that I have a very good vision and just some time ago I started to notice that my eyes get tired very fast. Until I went to the glass shop to select good sun glasses and they asked if I need a prescription. I said, I don't know, never had a test. They suggested to have a test for free and... I have astigmatism :D Went to the doctor, he confirmed and said that I must use glasses.

Soo. I also made a paid test in a local glass shop to get a prescription (PHOTO 1), etc, etc (doctor doesn't provide prescription as the glasses are not covered by insurance for me anyway).

I made another test in the same place later for free and ordered glasses from them with new prescription (PHOTO 2). I definitely see somehow sharper with them but I'm not satisfied overall. I checked both prescriptions.. and.. they are different, but I don't know if it's a huge difference in terms of eye glasses or not.

  1. All the shapes are curved. The proportions and depth perception is so bad, I can't walk freely. I don't see the stairs and the ground looks like it cuts me in half (higher than knees). All rectangles are trapezoids (not symmetric). I know, that's because of the angle difference between the correction of eyes (when I close one eye, the perception is back to normal and dizziness goes away).
  2. I noticed doubling/lines (like astigmatism but my brain is already adapted to my astigmatism and this is something new). Especially visible in the night on a LED panels.
  3. When I close right eye and rotate glasses countr-clockwise (for around 15-20 degree) with only left eye looking, it goes away and the curviness of proportions is reduced. Right eye is also better if I rotate clockwise just a bit (maybe 5 degree) .
  4. There's a lot of chromatic aberrations in the left eye. Constantly. All across the lense even in the center. Esp. if I look on the white text on a black background. When I close right eye and rotate glasses (same direction as in previous point) it also goes away.

I can't use them constantly. I know, there's an adaptation period but I wear them for several days and in the end of the day my eyes are so tired of them, I decide to take them off.
I will go and ask to replace the lenses and properly make a prescription. Or even first I will go to another place/doctor for proper prescription.

Now the questions:

  1. Except for cylinder axis, what should I ask them to check? Can improper vertical alignment also cause such a distortion? I assume the first photo is more correct but want to do everything precisely now.
  2. Is it usual thing to have different angles of cylinder between the eyes?
  3. What is the proper way of testing the eyes for the prescription? Should they give me some configurable/adjustable glasses so I can rotate/test different positions? I feel like this 3 sec automatical machine is not precise and can't trust it anymore. They used another machine to rotate something and asked me what's better: A or B but in the end it looks like it didn't work anyway.
  4. Should the chromatic aberrations be visible with such a prescription?
  5. How thick the lenses should be with this prescription? I ordered what is so-called "comfort" lenses, the thinniest thay have and the lightest but they are very thick still (PHOTO 3, 4). Is it always like that with astigmatism?
  6. Post-manufacturing position adjustment (how the eyes sit on the face). How much it affects the clarity? Shouldn't they know where is my vision center/line on the glasses before they manufacure it? Or it's usually just enough to adjust the nosepads so the glasses sit correctly?
  7. I often get dry eyes but not always. Should I apply some light non-preservative eyedrops before I go to remake the prescription? Will it make the measurements more consistent or will it just make it less realistic?
  8. [UPD] Is it useful to make values in different eyes closer to each other (even if they are slightly off the correct values)? E.g. right eye cylinder also -1.5 and left angle closer to 180 degree?

Would appreciate any advice and your help!

P.S. The local branch is Fielmann, Germany. So if anybody has experience of remaking glasses with them and it has some specifics, please share them with me. Thanks!

Created camera gear/tripod -friendly holder for Arctic Summair 2GO / Fan review

Needed a portable fan for summer and for my wife during drumming in a booth. I already knew about Summair 2GO fan and wanted it for this reason but it gives no option for proper installation. So I bought it anyway and created the holder myself. Works perfectly with a magic arm attached wherever I want thanks to 1/4" standard thread.

The fan is perfect for the usage counting it's compact size and long-lasting replaceable battery.
Table-top office usage: 20% power is enough to cool myself down in a normal temperature of around 22C from 0.5m away. 50% is too much and it starts making noise.
One minor downside is that cleaning the blades is not easy. Not possible without some thin earstick.

P.S.: can also suggest the fan for fanning the coals in the grill 😃
