I was afraid of the fish breaking so I went a little overkill with the number of skewers 😅

I got humbled in Vegas.

Not by the casino, but by Howlin Rays. For context, I’ve done the one chip challenge three times, regularly get off-menu spice levels at Thai and Indian restaurants, eaten scorpion/reaper etc. and generally just love to crank it up and have steam coming off my head.

I figured a commercial concept in the Venetian would be toned down big time, so I went directly for the Howlin and thought it’d be a nice meal to enjoy. I got a small sample of the dust on the back of a spoon and while it had some great heat, I miscalculated how it would be on my three tender order. First off - shoutout to Howlin Rays, the tenders and fries were huge. Can easily order that and split with another person.

The tenders came out and were CAKED with the powder. The taste was actually pretty good and I started getting some drops of sweat forming by the 7th-8th bite. About a little under halfway through, I realized what I was getting into and opted to stop eating it and finish my wife’s sandwich instead, hoping it would quell the oncoming GI pains in a few hours - spoiler: it did not. Pain started about an hour after last bite, and persisted for about 4 hours. Not what I was planning to do the day before I hopped on a plane! Next time, I think I’ll opt for the Hot to enjoy my time… based on what I read, the X-hot also packs a punch!

Meal was surprisingly good today from Incheon to SFO. 6.5/10

Max United score I would have ever given is probably a 7.5. A 10 would have to be a meal I’m looking forward to return to eating, not dissimilar to when you find THAT restaurant. Maybe only possible on Singapore or middle eastern airlines, no experience with those yet personally. I did go to the Singapore lounge at Incheon and their food options were great. Had some fresh Har Gow and Shumai.

Polaris Meal Review:
Appetizer shrimp - shrimp was fresh and crisp. Slaw was crispy and nice. Salad was meh.
Bulgogi- looked terrible but was pleasantly surprised when I bit into it. Kimchi was really fresh and not overly fermented. Helps when it was made by Koreans.
Breakfast pancakes were good for what they were. Melted the butter on top and fruit was fresh. Croissant was flaky and not overly buttered.
