When did Used.ca go all mercenary?

Just signed in to Used Victoria to upload my first ad in several months (we did a lot of downsizing, but been quiet for about 6 mos now), and it seems there is no truly "free" ad to be placed. Everything (7-day, 14-day and 30-day) says "starts at free" but then upsells users to buy an enhanced ad of some sort, which of course involves money. There does not seem to be a button you can click which says "I'm cool with my current choice" and move on, you simply must upgrade or their servers blow you back to the beginning!

I guess I'm off to M-place.. Too bad, met some nice folks on Used Vic and sold some pretty good stuff reasonably cheap.

Anybody else finding Used Vic blockaded behind a paywall?

Compatible Calendar Choices ?

Hi: My wife and I use the Rogers/Shaw webmail (separate accounts) and have been semi-successful at porting our calendar info over to our Samsung Android phone (and tablets when needed), but it's a one-way street. Entries made in the webcal on one of our computers copy over to the Androids no problem, but a new appointment (or a change) entered on the tablet or the phone simply does not synch with the "base station" (the laptop)

So when I'm at the dentist (for example) and the office gives my next checkup date, I have to enter it on my phone's calendar, then re-enter it on the laptop when I get home so it is picked up by my wife's laptop and thence to the copies on her own phone (and tablet)

So my question- Has anyone found an appointment calendar app that synchs two ways?

We're willing to try some of them out- have done so already with no real success.

(Yeah, I know I could this by switching over to I-phones, tablets and laptops, but aside from needed a forklift full of money, we are not ready to drop the Android equipment yet for other reasons.)

So, Android-compatible Windows apps or vie versa are what we're looking for.

Old Pill Bottle containers?

Hey there- is anyone collecting the pill bottles we all get from the pharmacy? Being a cancer patient, I have a near-endless supply which I have simply been recycling, but is there another use? Is someone collecting arrowheads or little wingnuts or.... that could use a supplier?

Going on a tear today..

It's barely noon and I've already had "cold" calls from Bell, Rogers and Telus about my wireless phone plan
All three calls began the same- a click, a pause of about 4 seconds, then some backgroud chatter before a heavily accented voice called me by my name, told me they were "xyz" from Bell-Rogers-Telus, then launched word for word into the same script before I cut them off.

Have all three hired the same call centre or am I being scammed by someone? The voices were different (1 was female), but the setup and words were the same.

Curious, that.

Does no charity do pickups any more?

This is a small rant. My lady and I both have physical issues which prevent either of us shifting heavier or awkward items. It's a bit of an issue that we usually can work around on a day-to-day, but this is a little different, hence the rant below:

We've amassed (over several "cleanups") 5 boxes of clothing, three boxes of clean kitchenware that we no longer have room for, and another box of knicknacks. AND there are two working, clean, countertop appliances that just don't fit the lifestyle (or in the kitchen, for that matter)

We assembled the pile near the front door and I started making calls...

First- the Canadian Diabetic Ass'n- apparently closed permanently- they used to troll for donations regularly which they took to Value Village. I have used them in the past. You often waited a couple of weeks, but they showed up and took everything from salt shakers to treadmills to overcoats in one go.

Next- Salvation Army- whose trucks used to also be everywhere. No more. They've apparently changed their business model and don't employ truckers any more.

Next- Beacon Community- At LAST! They have a truck and 'sometimes' they pick up, but right now they do not have a qualified driver and the truck is actually broken- about a month away from being back on the road!

Next Re-Store: they're not fond of clothing and kitchen stuff. They will pick up reno'd cupboards, counters and larger tools, but that ain't what I got..

So I am out of ideas...

Anyone know of another operation in the CRD that picks up donations?
