Today I walked out in my bike getting stolen

He almost had the front tire off. Mind you my bike was $100, not really worth anything. I was like dude what are you doing? Then he kinda stopped and screamed at me that he wasn’t touching my bike.

I got scared and ran back into my yoga studio and he stole the bike next to me tire in like actually 5 seconds flat and a guy at the yoga studio chased him down the road but he was gone. Man this city sucks some times.

American tourists

I work as a server here in downtown, and we’ve been getting a lot of American tourists from the cruise ships. Why do they keep asking if the prices on our menu are in Canadian or USD??? Why on earth would our menu be priced in American if we are in Canada… every time they ask I so badly want to say “no it’s in yen actually”. Like ?!?!?

Why is AI art allowed to be sold in stores like Urban art?

I can’t be the only one bothered by the sheer amount of AI and fake photos in urban art right?

I get it, it’s everywhere, it’s vastly uncontrollable etc etc.

But this is a business claiming to have local art and be local blah blah. It’s sad, it’s pathetic..

Outside of refusing to support them, are we really able to do nothing to stop this? It’s just so wrong feeling.

It takes away so much from actual local artists too. Which there is some in store I could see, but not enough to outweigh all the stolen AI shit. Just sad.

Victoria councillor proposes restrictions on spray paint sales to curb graffiti costs

"Coun. Stephen Hammond will bring a motion to the Committee of the Whole on May 21 asking city staff to explore bylaw options that could include banning spray paint sales to minors, requiring secure or staff-controlled storage in retail stores, and introducing signage in stores warning against misuse."

Dating Profile Photoshoots

Hi!

Recently, in talking with some of my friends that date men, I've noticed a general feeling that men need to step up their photo game on the apps. As a guy, I get it, we're often not that comfortable in front of the camera.

This got me thinking, because I happen to be a hobbyist photographer who wants to get into portraiture, but doesn't know where to start. This could be it!

If you've been looking to update your dating profile for summer and want some new photos that aren't selfies, drop me a message and we can chat about having a free mini-photoshoot!

Also, this is an open invite to anyone, not only men, even though we seem to need the most help in this regard...

Presently we can't have a thread about the Victoria Airport in this sub because it is actually located in Sidney and is a rule violation. We need to get this worked this out.

So now the malahat walk thread has been deleted, which was not my intention, we need the mods to acknowledge that things that happen in Sidney or Langford effect people living or visiting Victoria.

You could leave Victoria and encounter things happening just down the highway that you need to know about.

Instead, under the present rules, we can't even talk about Uptown mall without being in violation of Rule 7 "not Victoria related", let alone Sidney and Langford related issues.

I think we need to update rule 7 to "could the event affect someone in Victoria" instead of "did the event happen in downtown Victoria".

wtf Malahat Skywalk

They just opened their new glass cube, but also raised their prices to $50 per adult?! That is madness. They were like $30 in 2021, and even that was steep. I’ll go to Buchart gardens instead because now they’re cheaper…. Good luck.

Traffic

Hello,
I was wondering what traffic is like commuting from Langford to Sooke (for work)? I heard traffic is bad coming from Sooke into Victoria downtown for work, but haven’t read much about going the opposite way in the morning? Are you going against traffic then? How long would it take from Langford into Sooke at 7 am , for a job that starts at 8 am?

City staff recommend rejection of Victoria complex with 27-storey tower

I’m struggling to understand why city staff wouldn’t recommend it when 32-storey and 23-storey towers have already been approved in the same neighbourhood. Feels like this project fits the direction downtown Victoria is already heading in. Hoping council sees the value in it and gives it the green light.

A Strange Discovery While Digging

Update: opened and beautiful! Trying to add new photos here. Can’t seem to be able to. Will do a new post. Here is the update: https://www.reddit.com/r/VictoriaBC/s/gmj5pqPJoM
——————————————————————————
Today, I was digging in the ground beneath my bedroom window to fill a jar for planting. I’ve lived in this ground-floor apartment for four years, and although it’s a public area, I suspect the only other person who might have disturbed the soil is the previous owner. Last year, I added new soil but didn’t find anything interesting when I poured it out.

As I was digging, I stumbled upon a bottle after just the third or fourth shovel. Excitement and curiosity washed over me, but I wanted to wash my hands first. Unfortunately, I got sidetracked because I had a class with a student.

When the student’s guardian came to pick him up, I showed him the bottle. He warned me, saying, “Don’t open it. I’m from Sri Lanka, and older people there believe some Indians do this for bad luck. You should throw it in the sea.” I mentioned that I doubted an Indian person had buried it in that exact spot.

Even though I don’t typically believe in superstitions, his words made me hesitant to open the bottle. Now, it’s sitting atop my fridge, and I can’t shake the feeling that I should just toss it.

I also found this related post (https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/s/dn2RtdEIZ1). It appears to be from the UK and features a bottle similar to mine.

By the way, the smell coming from the bottle is a bit off—almost like cat pee. What should I do with it?

Moving to Victoria from Edmonton at the end of next month. I have been on vyvanse for 3 years, how do I go about trying to connect with a BC doctor to continue my prescription?

Basically what the title says...born and raised in the southern interior of BC, lived in Edmonton most of my adult life (turning 30 this year and have lived in Edmonton for 9.5 years)—so I'm not as familiar with the BC healthcare system (apart from it being difficult to access lol...which is also an issue on a national level) since I was mostly a kid/teenager there.

I plan on applying for MSP and fair pharmacare as soon as possible, and my prescribing doctor (psychiatrist) is going to issue me 6 months of meds before I leave, so I won't run out before I officially become a BC resident. I know finding a doctor is difficult at best, but if anyone with this particular experience moving from out of province (since vyvanse is a controlled substance) can offer any advice or point me in the right direction for who to contact when the time comes I'd really appreciate it!

I'm not looking for an ADHD assessment as I can request a letter from my current doctor for "proof," so is there a way to get in contact with a prescribing doc faster? Not sure/don't think a random walk-in GP would be able to.

Help for low income cancer patient

Not sure what help I can coordinate from afar, or what I’m looking for but my brother is age 51, and has terminal cancer (stage 4 colon cancer with Mets to liver).

He doesn’t have any treatment options. He lives with a roommate but is losing his apartment in a month. We are trying to bring him back to Ontario to be better supported in his final months by family. But I’m in Ontario and my other family is here or on the mainland. He is very alone.

Does anyone know of any resources that could link us up with help with food preparation or packing/selling belongings. Or food delivery that caters to a very strict limited ingredient diet? In the Saanich area, or any cancer charities we can look into for personal support or help in his relocation?

Thanks in advance for listening. We feel helpless
