Looking for a small remote work community in Victoria (cafés / restaurants)

Hi all,

I work entirely online, but I’ve found I focus better when I get out of the house and work around other people.

I’d like to start a small, informal group of remote workers, freelancers, and self-employed folks in Greater Victoria who’d like to meet up and work side by side a few times a week. Just laptops, Wi-Fi, quiet focus, and light conversation during breaks.

What I’m imagining:

Weekday sessions, roughly 2 to 3 hours

Mostly quiet, focused work, with conversation before, after, or over lunch if people feel like it

An easygoing, respectful group

No fees, no membership, and no commitment. Come when you can and skip when you can’t.

I’ve got a few cafés and restaurants in mind, and I’m happy to share them once there’s some interest. We can decide together or go with someone else’s suggestion. Ideally, I’d like to meet in Fairfield, Oak Bay, or James Bay, but I’m open to other locations if they work well for the group.

If you work from home, freelance, or run your own business and miss having a bit of coworker-style community, leave a comment or send me a DM. This is simply a relaxed way to get out of the house, get some work done, and meet a few like-minded people.

Why can’t smoke alarms beep every three seconds when the battery is low?

I just spent 40 mins trying to locate one of the 12 alarms in this house that was low on battery power. It beeped every three minutes and had no flashing light or any other indication that it was the deficient household culprit.

Is this Big Smoke Alarm trying to waste away my precious life moments, forcing me to wander aimlessly around this building, staring at the ceiling with a knot in my neck hoping to be sent a lifeline.

Is life not hard enough???

Why is the emergency alert system so flawed?

Asleep at 1:00AM in Victoria, on a Monday morning, and I’m woken by an Amber alert for Terrace, BC???

I have no problem being alerted to anything local and relevant, but tech does allow for logic.

Why isn’t it applied?

Upvote for ridiculous.
