I was really worried the film Obsession was gonna make people stop and think before buying obviously stupid, dangerous, and unethical spells

Nope! Absolutely no effect! So for those of us who were worried Obsession was gonna make the general spell-buying public go "gee, maybe it IS a bad idea to try to override someone else's free will for my own emotional and sexual gratification" and thereby undermine the Tiktok and Etsy rackets... nope. Just straight up nope! People have kept on keeping on buying literal obsession spells and they ain't gonna stop.

This is wonderful news for those of us who, shall we say, selflessly accept the karmic burden of lots and lots of other peoples' money :3

I sure am glad that for some reason magick is totally divorced from normal ethical concerns

Oh, some witches will tell you bullshit like "we aren't meant to interfere with free will" or "a lust spell is a form of sexual coercion" or "it's not more ethical to set your ex's house on fire just because you enacted a ritual for a timely lightning strike instead of breaking out the gasoline and matches". I don't see THOSE witches making the big bucks on TikTok and Etsy! Everybody knows that, if any of this stuff actually works, it's fundamentally different from getting your own hands dirty! Somehow!

Something something "intentions", amirite?

Am I missing something with Sohreh's death? Because it sounds like it's still in keeping with a tiger attack

So, I'm trying to get deeper into the lore, here. I don't really play the game, mostly I absorb fan content. But I've been looking at the actual lore to better understand things, and here's something in the Doctor's past that puzzles me:

I understand that the narrative implication is supposed to be that Zandik might have murdered Sohreh, and that in fact it's supposed to be a reasonable conclusion. But if the autopsy concluded that the ultimate cause of death was mechanical asphyxia... well, that's a very common way tigers actually kill their prey. For larger prey animals-- say the size of a deer or in this case a human-- basically they clamp their jaws around its throat until it loses consciousness, which happens very quickly since as well as making it impossible to breathe, the action constricts bloodflow (and therefore cuts oxygen) to the brain. The cause of death isn't so much blood loss, although that would be significant especially if the fangs were pulled out, it's asphyxia. The other usual hunting method involves trying to break the prey's neck. Point being, tigers go for the throat/neck area. It would arguably be weirder if there weren't a fractured hyoid bone in all this.

I get that everybody already disliked Zandik. But the revelation that Sohreh died of mechanical asphyxia rather than "lacerations or blood loss" does nothing to necessarily indicate something other than a Rishboland tiger killed her. If it had been driven off of her in time she might have died from her wounds, but it makes sense that mechanical asphyxia would have done the job first.

I realize maybe the writers weren't thinking about real-world tigers, but it's an awfully thorny detail. I am the last person to say Zandik is an angel, but it would be reasonable to assume that rather than killing her he was just blamed for her death because the Akademiya already wanted to get rid of him. And if so, we have a very important difference in narrative:

  1. If Zandik actually killed Sohreh, then yes, it was a particularly heinous act since she had come to like him. And I will grant that his own notes do indicate he had a motive if she discovered something he wanted hidden.

  2. If Zandik did not kill Sohreh, then it becomes extremely traumatizing for him that not only one of the few people who actually liked him dies horribly, but that her death is pinned on him. Like. This is not going to help with the preexisting misanthropy.

I have no illusions about our lovely, lab-coated abomination in the eyes of gods and mortals, but I feel like it's not unreasonable to suspect a frameup.

Am I missing something?

I feel like this song would take very little tweaking to be a Dottore anthem

I hope this isn't the wrong place for it, and I'm sorry if it is. Last time I tried linking to a 40K song on a different character sub than this one it was interpreted as disrespectful, and that's very much not my intention, nor is it my intention to post anything unrelated to the Doctor. If I had time for making an AMV might try that, as it stands I just want to share a thought. A vision, in fact.

The song is Change, by Colm R. McGuiness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sq4RFDuVpI

And it's got such tidbits as:

Hey, I think we're the same
They'll say I'm deranged, I just don't like things all staying the same
Wait, we're on the same page
We both know that destiny is a web instead of a chain

Hell, I'm taking the reigns
Erasing the rut they're keeping you in, it's full of snakes
Well, now don't be ashamed
'Cause you and I know that one thing that makes them afraid

and

They say knowledge is a curse
Well, I can't picture anything much worse
Than seeing the truth, but never learning the trade
When it was all just clay meant to be remade

Obviously there are Warhammer 40K references that would need replacing/tweaking... and I admittedly am completely the wrong person for that because my knowledge of Genshin Impact is extremely circumscribed. I am, I fully admit, mostly here for the scary sexy scientist birb man. Anything I know about GI sorta starts with him and flows outward. I will say his commonalities with Tzeentch amuse me all the more because they're both associated with the color blue and birds. I just think that's neat.

Once again, my apologies if this is the wrong place to share. I've essentially got an AMV with the Doctor and this song running through my head on a loop, so in my head there's a lot more emphasis on him than might be otherwise interpreted. Not trying to shoehorn another fandom in here, the vision was all Dottore.

Apropos returning after a reddit-wide ban at the whim of our robot overlords, I feel I need to make a statement of great importance to my magickal bretheren and sisteren

I do NOT endorse cannibalism. I do NOT think we should be eating people. We should especially NOT be eating people to gain their powers. We should ONLY discuss eating people in metaphorical terms such as oral sex. I am NOT tired of pretending to think cannibalism is bad.

So, don't any of you try it, even if you're leaning hard into your hagmaxx grind. Literally eating people? Uncool. Don't do it. You'll get pregnant and die. Maybe just eat a bunch of eggs or something, that's pretty witchy, I guess. Wash it down with moon water, idk. Just keep your mouth as far away from human flesh as you can... except your own i guess? Because how would you even do that when your mouth is MADE of human flesh. oh my god dude that's sick i feel like an angel just spoke to me i should write that one down in the ol' book of shadow the hedgehog

Anyway, I gotta feed my raccoons and cleanse my chakras, stay safe and uneaten!

/uj I can't even be mad because as part of the joke I explicitly said it wasn't a joke. The AI was just doing its job. This is still the funniest thing that has happened to me in months.

Can I be a witch if I don't understand magic and don't do magic and in fact fear magic and hate magic and hate witches and I am a direct descendant of Cotton Mather and every night I hear his sweet wet voice gently coaxing me into cleansing this sorcery-befouled world by the noose and by the flame?

Well? Can I? Or is your "inclusivity" all a sham?

But does that mean I can't? Like. Independently of The Ckraft. It wouldn't be because I'm a witch. I'm not saying I'd make a habit of it. I'm not saying I'd do it at all. Just, y'know, I'm a Pisces. We need to stay flexible, we don't do well with rigid order. I'd just feel more secure if I knew all my options were open.

Not gonna lie I would not be so NEARLY fixated on this if someone just told me there are no societal rules that apply to me if I don't want them to up to, and including infanticide and cannibalism. I'm a free spirit and arbitrary restrictions hurt me 🥺

also i'll thank you not to judge me for hagmaxxing it's my Threefold Truth
