My FIRST Maryland-Style Crab Steam in Italy!🇮🇹

Hey everyone! Your favorite Italian crabber is back once again!

Last night I went crabbing at my favorite spot with my girlfriend and we caught 8.5 kg (about 18.7 lbs) of blue crabs! I was finally able to experience a true Maryland style crab feast for the first time now that I got my hands on some J.O. #2!

Following all your awesome advice, I used equal parts water, beer, and apple cider vinegar for the steaming liquid. I pre chilled the crabs on ice, layered them into the pot with a generous coating of J.O. #2, and steamed them for about 20 minutes. And WOW... I LOVED THEM!

I also made a melted butter dip seasoned with Old Bay and a fresh squeeze of lemon, which took the flavor to a whole new level! I cannot even begin to imagine what other incredible recipes I am missing out on. This was a truly mind blowing experience, and I cannot wait to experiment with these seasonings on the BBQ as well!

Thank you all so much for the helpful suggestions and tips. Your advice made this first steam absolutely flawless, and I know future batches will only get better. God bless Maryland!

Every suggestion, tip, trick or everything else is more than appreciated!

Finally, right here in Italy, I can enjoy these delicacies like a true American! Here are some photos from today! 🦀🇺🇸🇮🇹

Recipes with J.O. #2 and Old Bay for an Italian crabber🦀🇮🇹

Hey! Since it's almost impossible to get any US spices over here, I decided to import them myself!

Now, a simple yet crucial question: what is the best way to use them? I catch plenty of blue crabs and I definitely want to try an authentic Maryland steam, but I'm also super open to other recipes, obviously even non-crab dishes using these seasonings!

I love BBQ also so feel free to open your mind!

Thank you so much!

Crabbing in Italy

Italy's currently facing a huge invasion of blue crabs, and what's the best method to fight this plague? Eating them!

Thousands of kilos of crabs get wasted every day by professional fishermen as there's not much market demand here. These are some of last night's catch, 5kg in 16 crabs - we don't have a size limit here, just a total weight limit.

I just boil them for 1 minute before cleaning, seasoning, and throwing them on a hot BBQ grill! Some of these are huge!

Wanna join me and my girlfriend in this fight while enjoying the Italian sun on the beach?🇮🇹🦀
