Crabbing in Puget Sound SurrStröming as bait

Hey reddit, ive seen some talk online about using Surstromming as crab bait. Im going to use a can of it this season as bait. Off a boat not a dock.

Anyone else have any experience using this bait? Or other disgusting bait enhancements besides smelly jelly?

My friend from South America has no idea what horseshoe crabs are. So I sent him this and told him the ones at Jones Beach aren’t particularly vicious unless provoked or hungry. He’s now terrified of New York.

Saint John’s River Blue Crabs>Chesapeake bay blues

Both are fantastic, but I think the Mayport crabs have them beat in both price and quality. The Mayport crabs are quite a bit more tender, and have a stronger flavor rather than just tasting like Zatarains.

For in a boil, Chesapeake is fantastic, for just eating straight, Mayport edges it out.

Transporting home

First year crabbing and wanting to know what’s the safest way to bring home grab home, I was told today that it’s not smart to kill them? Or is live the only way sorry if it’s a dumb question

Crabbing around Los Angeles?

I am visiting from Germany in September, and would love to catch some rock crabs for a meal.

Can anyone recommend a place to go?

Ideally id like to go foraging at low tide, if that's possible, if not, then pier fishing with a hoop net.

I don't have any gear or licenses yet, I would acquire everything when I'm there.

I would love some advice! Or if someone knows a place to rent gear or go on a guided trip, would be nice, too!
