Using a bubble float, 8lb floro and a size 14 hook. Carp are freely taking my offerings of dog food (kibble) but bypassing the bait (same thing as offerings) on the hook.
Any pointers?

Hike to Loch Iorsa on the Isle of Arran.
Bit of a disaster as our stove broke (so cooked on a fire instead), it rained so hard that the tent leaked.
However, great experience had.
I was wondering if anyone has been fishing on Arran this summer and if they have had any luck.
Planning on targeting mackerel in Lamlash and mullet in the Brodick area. Would be interested to see if anyone has had success there this summer.
Planning on heading to Burton on Trent on Saturday and have some spare time in the afternoon for some fishing.
I know that there are some permit free areas in and around the town to the north and south of the centre and wondered if anyone have experience of these?
Furthermore, I’m hoping to target Barbel as I know the Trent is prolific for this species. Does anyone have hints or tips for targeting these fish?

Paid a visit to these lakes today and was appalled by the amount of fishing related litter around the lakes (sweetcorn tins, bread wrappers, empty crisp packets). Whatever you bring with you fishing, take it home otherwise we’ll loose the usage of these great little lakes.
On a more positive note, I broke my PB for common carp today.

I’ve an old Abu Garcia rod with slidey versions of these that have cracked when I pushed them on to the reel. I’m not sure what they are called.
