Cod from the Kayak at St.Abbs, Berwickshire

Caught a couple of cod this size the other day just out from the harbour at St. Abbs in Berwickshire/Scottish Borders the other day. I fish here all summer and always do well with good size Pollack, Wrasse, Cod and Mackerel.

Mackerel

Afternoon guys, thinking of sorting a trip to get some mackerel, wandering which feathers everyone’s using? What seems to be the best takers? Used different ones here and there but but inconsistent.
TIA

Dongle rig - construction tips

I’m planning to fish large fish baits primarily for ray, with a chance of conger and bass. Not necessarily going to keep what I catch, so dongle rig seems like a good approach.

Question is, any ways of doing it without buying (expensive) heavy braid? I have a load of rusty split rings from lures, so that’s that bit sorted. I have old braid of about 40lb bs, and also some paracord which was out in the sun for a long time and is a bit rotted but still pretty strong. Could either of these work?

Many thanks!

Some recent success on the Bristol channel and south coast

Bait used (in order) peeler, herring, prawn. All on home tied dongle pulleys.

Caught my current personal best Pollock, and these are all the fish we kept yesterday in Scotland

This was also my first fish on a soft plastic lure. The fish was somewhere between 50-55cm if I recall correctly. Also the second photo has all the fish we kept yesterday fishing off the boat using lures, that were Pollock and Mackerel, we also had landed some small cod, coalfish, mackerel and pollock that were too small to keep, but those are the ones we kept.

Sea fishing in Morocco – best spinning lures and colours?

Hi guys! I have a question. This holiday I’m going to Morocco and I’d like to try some sea fishing with spinning lures.
What lures and lure colours would you recommend for shore fishing in Morocco?
Also, if I’m staying at a hotel by the sea, can I fish directly from the hotel beach, or is it better to fish from a pier, rocks, or some other spots?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

New to Fishing and Caught a bass - where is best S.England Holiday for Family AND i can sneak some decent fishing in?

Hi all,

Clueless about fishing as i just started 3 days ago but was loads of fun chilling at the beach in this heatwave; was 10 degrees cooler at the beach and i caught a bass off a Lowestoft beach next to a groyne.

Im posting here asking for your southern/south east England family holiday destination suggestions where i Can happily pop out and do some lure fishing AND its a great chill location for the family to enjoy - just the 3 of us.

I dont know all the terminologies yet but im doing coastal Lure fishing, working features and also I tried launching it out to sea and reeling in to see what happens .. think thats called Surf fishing.. im not sure.

I have ONLY caught a Bass and would like to catch more. I have some feathers to try Mackerel fishing too oneday..if i can catch more species then this would be great.

From what ive seen online Dorset sounds quite popular, any personal favoured spots for fishing and Holiday stuff?

Also

Feel free to suggest fishing gear, lines lures etc that I can look into at your suggested destination.

My gear:

savage gear v2 weedless sandeel lure and i think my line is 20lb braided and my rod is 7ft and 50g.. other than the lure the rod and line were from a cheap set for £50 in the fishing shop at Great Yarmouth - dont know much about it.

I tie my line to a metal leader that has a clasp amd swivel that i just stick the lure on.

I also posted this in another group too but Reddit suggested after that i post here which i hadnt heard of :) here i am!

World Cup Summer - the best Fishing?

I just had a thought as a non football fan... I am not particularly interested in the world cup, but when it does come around, do any other anglers that feel the same as me look forward to their favourite spots more than likely to be empty?

My local is a really popular spot, and its always 50/50 as to whether there will be enough space for me to fish amongst the other guys there. When its empty its pure bliss, but that isn't often.

I've had a couple of solo nights there this week and wondered if its probably down to the world cup being on, anyone else take advantage of this here?
