Oysters as bait?
Went to check out a mark I want to fish today at low water, lots of oysters. Anyone used oysters as bait? Looking for bass, with the amount of shellfish there I’m also thinking there’s a chance of giltheads

Hi everyone, I’m completely brand new to fishing and just wanted some advice on whether I’ve bought the right gear for lure fishing off Cornish rocks/cliffs and harbour areas.
I’ve now bought:
Daiwa Crossfire Bass rod, 9ft, 10-35g casting weight
Abu Garcia Cardinal reel (3000 size)
Hercules braid
Mainly planning on targeting things like bass, mackerel, pollock etc using lures/spinners/soft plastics from Cornwall rocks and harbours.
Does this sound like a decent beginner setup for what I’m trying to do? Also, would this rod struggle if I’m fishing from higher rocks/cliffs and need to lift fish up?
Any general advice for a complete beginner would be appreciated too.
Hey, my name is Liam and I am a 21 year old sea fisherman from the uk. I have 14 years of experience and am in the process of getting a coaching certification for the hobby/lifestyle and setting up fishing clubs for kids/teens and even adults if they want to learn how to fish. The group of us doing this even are pushing to get it to be put in the curriculum at schools.
In the near ish future when I find the time to I will be making a YouTube channel, because I see so many green fisherman struggling on literally knowing what to buy, where to fish, how to cast, how to learn to read the tides and winds, how to find spots, how to setup rods, how to tie your own rigs, how to prep your bait, how to prepare the fish once you’ve caught them etc etc. Literally everything you could need and the YouTube videos I’ve watched either overcomplicate everything so so much or are just useless and you’d have been better off just pissing into the wind.
I do not know if this post is allowed or will even get approved, I am not doing this to try become famous. Or get recognition or earn heaps of money from doing this. I just am really passionate about fishing and to see people struggle when it shouldn’t be a struggle, it should be an upwards learning curve.
I want to build a community where catches are shown off, techniques are compared because you never stop learning and hey maybe someone could show me some cool new useful things I’m not saying I know the most in any way!
But anyway thank you for taking the time to read this! Tight lines 🎣
I tend to do lots of pike and river fishing but due to the close season I’ve decided to try find a cheap saltwater spinning set up, does anyone know good spots near preston/lancaster (40 mins drive tops) area that are cheap/free? Thanks!
I fish some very rough ground with a lot of junk in the water, any reason why this is a bad idea? Single hook attached to the top end of a wedge, 15lb hook link, which is weaker than leader (25lb) and main line (30lb). It seems to work from the point of view of not losing so many lures
I'm currently on holiday in Scotland, and decided to have a bash with a Dexter wedge as it was going dark. I let the wedge sink a little too far and started snagging the bottom. I thought I'd hit a clump of seaweed with how heavy the line went, so just keep reeling to clear the lure.
As I cleared the surface, this beauty dropped off about 10ft out in the surf. It took me a moment to realize what it was, before I was furiously wading out, shoes be damned.
Got it onto shore, already dreaming of a lobster dinner, but turned out she's a girl!
She was absolutely packed with eggs (you can see how many in the picture), so she's been safely released, and I guess it's a pot noodle for tea.
All in all, I'm gutted that she wasn't a keeper, but also over the moon to have been able to see something you don't see every day, and at least I have an interesting story!
Hopefully my shoes will dry out quickly.....
I searched high and low in my local area south wales to get peeler crab , Facebook as well , no one seems to have any anywhere just hardback if lucky , some soft jellies so I ended up buying frozen English peeler seven quid for four yikes
Now to go up the local estuaries and see what’s about
Hello, I apologise if this isn't the appropriate place to post this questions but I couldn't ind of anywhere else! - please point me in the right direction if its not the right place.
Not the best video, I took it on the coast at St Leonards on Sea and wondered what might cause all the seagulls to be in one space like that? looks like they're feeding on something? Thanks for any insights, cheers
Managed to snag a couple of hours down Clacton beach yesterday.
Target fish: flatties.
2 rod set up.
Rigs : 1 up 1 down & pulley pennel.
Time of tide: 1 hour into flood.
Bait, 2 sessions old defrosted ragworm tipped with squid and full squid bait on the pennel.
Wasn’t expecting much as the wind picked up and my rig bodies were abit heavy.
Fish came in around 1lb. And it was the only fish caught. Absolutely buzzing. Haven’t caught a sole for around 10 years!
Was lure fishing on the beach hoping for a bass but instead I reeled in this little guy. I've never caught a flat fish (i think this is called Dover sole?) On a lure before. Is it common that they go for lures?
I used 1/0 hook and 40lb line
Which would be the most effective for mackerel as some of my mates say the luminous white/pink head ones or the tinsel ones.
Hey all my fishy friends.
Has anyone fished off the pier at tolcarne beach in newquay (england)? Im going next week but looking at it on google maps it looks small, tight and very short. Is it worth fishing off the pier? If so which one? Or am i better off just fishing off the sand?
Thanks all! Tight lines
By my reckoning this bugger took my bait twice before I finally caught him. Not even a nibble after he went back.
About 1' long, slightly plumper than the photo suggests but not worth it for a fillet.
Was odd to catch one so late at night but I'm happy to see one, I'll be going back in a few nights.
I'm going down to Marazion in a couple of weeks.
Stopping in a shore side cottage. So will have a lot of access in the evenings when the kids are in bed.
Wondering what's best? Got lots of feathers and lures.
But would ledgering bait be better?
Hi Community
I made a remarkable discovery recently that the assumed pipe and lagging in my loft was in fact tubed fishing rods after a few years of being unable to get up there!
I'm not an angler but my old man is and has advised that I apparently have a 6 ft Jarvis and 2 7 ft Penn sea boat fishing rods, no reels etc.
These were left in the loft by a previous owner, i dont want anything for them but rather an owner to put them back to work.
Based in CR postcode, DM me if interested
