How long did it take you to get a decent cast?

I've put in about 6 hours so far trying to get a decent cast and hit maybe 60 yards max 3 times, bit demotivated and wondering wether this is normal and i just need to keep grinding. For context using a 14ft beachcaster with 4.5oz lead.

New to lure fishing in Cornwall - is this a decent beginner setup?

Hi everyone, I’m completely brand new to fishing and just wanted some advice on whether I’ve bought the right gear for lure fishing off Cornish rocks/cliffs and harbour areas.
I’ve now bought:
Daiwa Crossfire Bass rod, 9ft, 10-35g casting weight
Abu Garcia Cardinal reel (3000 size)
Hercules braid
Mainly planning on targeting things like bass, mackerel, pollock etc using lures/spinners/soft plastics from Cornwall rocks and harbours.
Does this sound like a decent beginner setup for what I’m trying to do? Also, would this rod struggle if I’m fishing from higher rocks/cliffs and need to lift fish up?
Any general advice for a complete beginner would be appreciated too.

Sussex fishing

Does anyone in West Sussex know of any free to fish locations as I’m strapped for cash and don’t want trespassing charges. I’ve heard that stretches of the river Arun are free but I’m not sure and can’t find anything about it online.

Fishing Woodland lakes after 13 years

Hi everyone, the other week I visited a lake I hadn't fished in about 13 years which has recently been refurbished and restocked. I went with a float rod set up and fished over a bed of maggots.

I was catching a good head of roach and gudgeon when my float shot under and I landed this beautiful common carp.

Here's a video I made of the day if anyone is interested.

Fishable lakes near me

Where can I find a list of fishable lakes / rivers around my area? Did a google but couldn’t find a central list or information source of locations.

I live in Sutton Coldfield West Midlands, have a fishing licence, just want to know where I can and can’t fish. Fairly new to fishing so apologies if this is a silly question

New to beach casting ..

So.. me and a mate tried chessil beach at the weekend and blanked.. yes we blanked on chessil.. But every cast the bait has been stripped so I'm guessing it's crabs .. I tried different rigs and different size hooks and changed between baits even tried some cocktails.. still caught nothing and still lost bait so my question is, is it possible im casting to far or not far enough.. opinions please many thanks ..

Information for new fisherman

Hey, my name is Liam and I am a 21 year old sea fisherman from the uk. I have 14 years of experience and am in the process of getting a coaching certification for the hobby/lifestyle and setting up fishing clubs for kids/teens and even adults if they want to learn how to fish. The group of us doing this even are pushing to get it to be put in the curriculum at schools.

In the near ish future when I find the time to I will be making a YouTube channel, because I see so many green fisherman struggling on literally knowing what to buy, where to fish, how to cast, how to learn to read the tides and winds, how to find spots, how to setup rods, how to tie your own rigs, how to prep your bait, how to prepare the fish once you’ve caught them etc etc. Literally everything you could need and the YouTube videos I’ve watched either overcomplicate everything so so much or are just useless and you’d have been better off just pissing into the wind.

I do not know if this post is allowed or will even get approved, I am not doing this to try become famous. Or get recognition or earn heaps of money from doing this. I just am really passionate about fishing and to see people struggle when it shouldn’t be a struggle, it should be an upwards learning curve.

I want to build a community where catches are shown off, techniques are compared because you never stop learning and hey maybe someone could show me some cool new useful things I’m not saying I know the most in any way!

But anyway thank you for taking the time to read this! Tight lines 🎣

Replacement metal ring thingy?

I inherited this little rod from my grandad and I'd love to take it out again, but as you can see one of the metal rings holding the reel on has been lost over the years. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement (Google not helping) or alternative way of fixing it? I don't think the elastic band will hold long! Thanks.

Fishing gear recommendations

Hi everyone,

I've been fishing a handful of times over this year usually my friends old rod and have been really enjoying it. I'm still very much a beginner and would like to buy my own rod + reel for UK fishing - float fishing for coarse/carp at fisheries. My budget is around £100 but could go higher for one that will last me a while. Any recommendations would be really appreciated!

Thanks : )

Recommendations for fishing holiday?

Hi guys, my daughter will be 9 in August and has asked if we could catch and cook a fish for her birthday ... pretty cool birthday wish. But. We know absolutely nothing about fishing. Does anyone know if there is anywhere/anyone that may teach and provide equipment, and let you take the fish home to cook (or cook on the spot)? Would be happy with any UK fisheries, sea fishing, happy to hear even any recommendations in Europe.

ND Tackle Bait Alarm part

I am new to fishing and my son and I are learning the ropes. We will go in fair weather and are working our way up to bigger carp.

I found these bite alarms on Vinted and feel like I was sold a bit of a dud. There are 2 alarms and a receiver but only one of the alarms has the connector to attach to a bank stick / pod. Seems like they are magnetic and specific to ND who it turns out, are no more this year.

Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with these in order to hook it up and get it working so we can use 2 rods?

Questions welcome but answers will be amateur.

I was a professional bass fishing guide for 3 years on the North Norfolk coast — happy to answer any questions

I've been chasing bass around the UK coastline for over a decade, spent three years guiding anglers of all abilities on the North Norfolk shore, and have probably made every expensive mistake this sport has to offer so you don't have to.

Happy to answer anything — marks, lures, tides, gear, casting, reading water, why you're blanking, whether that £40 Japanese lure is actually worth it (sometimes yes, often no).

Ask away in the comments.

Big Pollock from Shore, on a homemade lure.

Short but very productive session. Both fish caught on the same homemade lure too, extra satisfying. Unfortunately the bigger one was gut hooked and bleeding badly, I usually return fish that size. At least the freezer is packed with fish now.

I’ve made a video on how I found this mark. How I find new spots is probably the thing I’m asked the most, so hopefully the new video is helpful.
