Reload

I've been reloading for over an hour on one mission because Thin Men don't miss and when they don't miss they must crit.

Hitting really hard without grinding levels

FFTA2 sure has some chunky enemies, and the stronger they get, the less damage you deal! Quite frustrating to reach the watches of Brightmoon Tor and to run into a brick wall against lvl 90 monsters with regen & all defensive buffs applied taking multiple turns for your 1 turn. Surely we need a high level team or exploit to deal with this? Not quite.

You can actually overwhelm this tier of enemy with an ordinary clan using skills from Archer, White Mage and Paladin/Spellblade, and at typical levels 30-40.

Damage is calculated by finding the difference in Total Attack - Total Defense /2, then any additional multipliers like elements & direction. So provided we are exceeding half the enemy defense, damage will be dealt.

Stat boosts only affect character stats, not equipment stats. So Attack up (x1.2 attack) on a unit with 100 base attack and a 55 damage weapon will improve 155 > 175 total attack. Multiple stat boost all multiply together for a snowballing effect.

So to overwhelm very high enemy defense we must stack these stat boosts as high as possible and use skills that can leverage them. These boosts are:

  • x1.2 Attack Up (Attack)

  • x1.8 Focus (Attack)

  • x1.5 Turbo MP (Attack/Magic AND x1.5 to the final damage)

You might be wondering which skills can use both Focus and Turbo MP - these are skills that scale off your weapon damage and cost MP to use. Further we require races that also have access to White Mage & Archer. These are:

Hume: Archer/Paladin or Paladin/Archer using Saint Cross & Holy Sword

Viera: Archer/Spellblade or Spellblade/Archer using Blade Arts

Choice is really down to the enemy and map, but this will guaranteed hit like a truck on anything without grinding.
