Watching Disclosure Day made me miss Spielberg on Indiana Jones.
I was at the cinema yesterday watching Spielberg’s new film, Disclosure Day, and I couldn't help but think how different Dial of Destiny would have been if he had stayed on as director.
Say what you will about Dial of Destiny, I personally enjoyed it despite its's flaws, but there is just something about Spielberg’s specific way of moving the camera, staging, and blocking that felt missing from the last entry. Even the smaller action sequences in his new film felt so crisp and fun. It really made me miss his touch on Dial, especially as the final entry in the series.
Also, seeing Colin Firth in this, made me think he would have made a fantastic and sophisticated villain in the series.

The only thing better than watching Raiders of the Lost Ark is hearing that iconic score performed live.
However, I couldn't help but notice that the sound mix felt a bit off. While the orchestra and the film’s dialogue were crystal clear, the sound effects seemed to be mixed incredibly low, almost muted entirely at times. During some of the biggest action sequences like the Raven Bar fight, the plane fight, and the truck chase, the iconic punch sounds, whip cracks, and gunshots were barely audible.
To be honest, it really made those high-stakes action scenes feel a bit flat. Without those tactile, punchy sound effects to accompany the visuals, the choreography lost some of its impact, making the sequences feel oddly disconnected from the intensity we’re used to.
I’m curious if anyone else noticed this while watching? I last saw the film with an orchestra in 2018 and don't recall this being an issue, so I’m wondering if this is a common occurrence or if it was just the mix at the Liverpool Philharmonic.
