House of Donuts in Hicksville

Drove out of our way today to pick up some donuts, and were disappointed to see it's closed due to a fire. Curious when this happened, we don't live out that way and were looking forward to some quality donuts for a change. Here's hoping it comes back, but I'm sure it was yet another place that was too good for this world 😔💔

Tired of Jesus getting allllll the adulation and attention

There was a christian in another thread that posted some oft-regurgitated sentimental claptrap about Jesus (a thread about the Jesus freak preaching on the plane.) Something along the lines of "aren't you glad he died for our sins?" I wrote the following response, only to find out the thread was locked and I couldn't reply after all, so I'll just vent here instead:

What frustrates me, is that there are SO many people whose deaths led to tangible results. We rarely celebrate them, certainly not in the way they deserve.

Clair Patterson and Dr. Needleman- discovered how dangerous levels of lead in daily life were poisoning us. The Radium Girls. The 146 women who died in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, which led to better conditions for workers. The Soviet scientists who chose to starve to death rather than consume the seeds being preserved to grow more food. Countless others are dying now, trying to preserve the rights others have already died for.

I'm tired of hearing about the one guy who suffered for a weekend and was then whisked away to eternal paradise. Enough already.

(Feel free to modify/copy/paste as needed, when anybody else starts praising you-know-who yet AGAIN like we've never heard it before.)

So pretty, yet invasive?? 🥺

Apparently, most every plant in my garden is non-native. I was hoping these cuties were like wood sorrel, nope no such luck. Cinquefoil is invasive and not indigenous to my state. Harumph 😤

As you can see, it's nestled under the azaleas, also non-native, along with my geraniums, columbine, fire witch (?), day lilies, asian lilies, hostas, autumn joy, daffodils.....🤦‍♀️

All I can do is replace them bit by bit. Sigh.

EDIT: Turns out these are likely native in most of the US, okay not all hope is lost!

Nationalist garbage all over Bowne Park

Last year, it was glitter stars, plastic flags and flag stickers (both American and Israel), along with some graffiti. Now, it's rubber-cemented miniature rubber ducks touting the nation's 250th anniversary, along with fun-tacked extra-mini alien ducks of some kind.

Nothing cute about the additional plastic waste. The old garbage is still visible, stars all over the ground, and faded plastic flags. Whoever is compelled to do this, at least clean your old stuff up first.

If you really need to get people excited about the nation's anniversary, for some strange reason, give out the ducks for free on July 4th or something. Why glue them just for display? Weird as hell. Wondering if this is a thing in other parks.
