My take

A. Something happened.

B. John & Patsy, justifiably or unjustifiably panicked, rushed to obfuscate, contaminate the scene, obstruct justice, compose a Tolstoy of Ransom Notes that would make the Unabomber seethe with jealousy, and proceeded to construct and continue building the remainder of their unprecedented level of diversified staging, sewing seeds of sheer shock and horror, including their own interwoven ball of disentangled intertwinements, constructing the most contorted and distorted misdirection of narratives, along with making contradictory shit up on the fly, both when caught in the moment - AND HENCE - every time asked unanticipated questions lobbed at them from left field, all - and especially - in the wee early years, while overcome with one twisted combobulation interwoven into a complex ball of profound devastation, grief, terrorizing fear and the unrelenting distress stemming from frantic juggling balls on all sides, at times, when the prognosis appeared sunnier and to their favor - leading to fleeting spurts of smug confidence - and at other times, when ominously dark threatening clouds loomed overhead: but never, ever, with the genuine peace that stems from the unperturbed internal noise of unqualified tranquility.

C. The rest is a tangled web of melded thoughts, emotions, and actions, both self-preserving, as well as self-destructive, due to a complex mixture of intentionality, juxtaposed and intermingled w true, apprehensive, and neverending, lifelong, perpetual jitteriness.

D. John always pauses and shifts when confronted and required to respond to groundbreaking, unforseen and/or blusteringly dismantling questions.

SSSSsshh it's late

Got hit up for turndown duties, so that everyone would crash already, and the daytime online posters can begin inserting their own post-daytime sub-flavor - and hit send.

Kindly keep this platform as clean for me as you found it, pleeease. 🙏🏽

Good night, Eeyore.

How many stars would you give

Couple with 10 yo (probably unsupervised) kid. Shower spray of full bath removed from overhead and found on side rim of tub facing upward. Entire bathroom including rugs drenched. Water leaked through floorboards into basement.

Cleaner described bath rug as being so soaked that it looked like buckets of water were dumped onto it.

I don't know how to assess damage, if any, to the overhead basement boards underneath the tiles

*edit: oh, and shower liner found outside of tub, which would be no big deal, were it not for the condition of the bathroom and basement

9 PM last night to 4 PM check-in today same day? Or 1 day advance?

I have always had IB enabled. However, I have advance availability settings set to 1 day (Allow request with less than 1 day notice).

AirBnb is talking to me out of two sides of their mouth. It's less than 24 hours???

This woman has told me guest made reservation @ 5 AM yesterday. In my app it says 9:21 PM yesterday. She says yes that's correct but the time zone matters

She keeps reversing herself. I asked, if I have IB 1 day advance notice can guest instant book 1 HOUR before?

Response: Yes.

Then no

Then yes.

Thennnn: "Depending on time zone."

I asked, WHOSE time zone?

Rep: Guest's.

Me: What's the guest's time zone?

Rep: Same as yours.

Me: ?!?!

Rep: I'll call you back.

I feel like I'm in Alice in Wonderland

Possibility I haven't accounted for: Rep is on Mars

Guests about to request a refund

Looking for guidance here. Received the following message from guest supposed to check in today for 4 days:

"Hello, we had a family emergency along with the flooding there and I don’t think we will be able to make it for our stay"

I inquired with folks in the state, and the only flooding was in the south, easily 2+ hours away

How would/do you handle this?

Also, did AirBnb change hosts' cancellation policies without permission? My firm policy now says Firm Long Term with no option to modify it to include all stays. What gives???

TLDR revised summary below this copy

  1. Guest books same day @ 5 PM.
  2. 6 PM Guest msg: "I didn't know it's a shared space!" I PANIC. HEARRRRRT ATTACK Who's in there?? I start police call Guest LIED: NOT shared 🙄
  3. I rush to call guest Guest contact info: GONE!! Now I'm FRANTIC. They moved the guest contact info by phone? MAD site search #4 Guest didn't read •Listing •Welcome msg. 5 I begin to msg support. I leave screen to find a word+booking details to explain problem. I return to my msg My copy is GONE. This is NEW. It used to remain in the threadTgevsitevhas become a bad experience for host, guest & AirBnb. 6 Guest msges me "I expected the WHOLE HOUSE!" [No way, she did NOT ] I wanna REFUND. 7 Wasted time. Effort. $$$$. 8 I finally find guest phone number and call it The device is FAKE! BOGUS! INACTIVE!. 9 I Call CS. Agent in the Far East scolds MEEEEE!! Says, "You didn't list it's a tiny unit." I'm like 😯😵‍💫❓❓The rep doesn't know the words "EFFICIENCY" or "CPL." 10 Agent: "REFUND the guest!" (AYKM) 11 Me: WTF ??!? 12 The rep doesn't know abt cancel policies Or doesn't CARE. 13 I request US employee Her response: NO 14. I request a mngr The rep argues The rep relents. 15 I check for the reservation details. GONE from app page UI! AirBnb fucking moved everything again! The host can no longer see the booking info. 16. So I check my email and find booking info, which lists one guest. The camera says: TWO females. 17. THENNNNN a Male BANGS on door. I hear sound from inside. He bangs AGAIN. He leaves. He returns. Bangs HARDER (glass door). He leaves again. The pattern just keeps repeating. At least 5-6 times. He leaves. 18 The male returns, and bangs HARRRRDER. 19 The male authorititatively orders: Lemme in!! 20 The male is admitted to the unit TLDR

Here's my edit. Last min guest books at 5 and at 6 I see a message saying I had no idea this is a shared unit

I respond WAIT WHAT

I live in a diff state and I swear that message shaved years off my life.

I restrict ALL communication to the app, but she made it sound like strangers were in the unit

So I rush to call the guest, and discover that for no reason I can discern, AirBnb fucked with the UI and I no longer see the guest's phone number where it's usually located. After frantic searching + why do they keep moving everything out of its original highly intuitive spot? They also moved automated messaging and booking info. I find the phone number for the account although I normally NEVER do calls only messaging,

I call the number and the phone is bogus, defunct, another Airbnb violation

So I told her I'm gonna get hold of AirBnb to make sure they have my back and then I'm gonna call the police call the police because there were strangers/trespassers/squatters there.

She freaked about that and admitted it was completely private with nobody there.

Then she says "I thought I rented an entire house!!!" (on this garbage rate? No you didn't, lady. It's a compact basement garden efficiency, you walk in to a multipurpose TV/loveseat+recliner sitting area, a kitchenette along the wall and a tiny table for two. There is also a very nice master br and a modern full bath

I try to be polite and say, ohh, that happens, sometimes I also don't read the fine print

She wants a refund

So she not only didn't read the listing, but also the welcome message clarifying that my cancellation policy is firm and nothing can be done.

The camera displayed two women. Reservation is for just one. It's a one bedroom efficiency for a single person or a couple, max occupancy 2 - one queen size bed.

Then my camera starts bombarding me with notifications and some guy is banging on the glass door and I hear a voice from inside but they don't open the door.

It's pouring

He leaves, I guess to his car, IDK if to use his phone, but very shortly he's back, this time banging much harder and yelling. On a glass entry door. I'm getting a tad nervous.

This repeats itself multiple times, orders in a mean authoritative tone to let him in and they do. until finally he comes inside

I go to call AirBnb because I'm feeling unsafe I know everyone here rags on CA, but except for once or twice, my support experience has always been top notch. Except it's night time and I get ppl in the Far East. She tried to tell me it's my fault because I didn't tell them how small it is (she doesn't know what "efficiency means), I tell her they have 3 guests on a one guest reservation in a unit with a 2 person max capacity.

So she tells me to give them a refund.

I give her hell and her English was too poor for her to push back and after she responds to my request for a US rep she tells me they don't have a transfer function.

So I go all Karen with her since she's refusing to get a manager whose dumber than the first one

I tell manager I don't feel safe (I'm across the country but it started to feel scary like they'll destroy my home). Manager says I'll call them, I say you can't they have a non working number and I told the manager they broke so many rules

Finally manager tells me she "educated" the guest and they'll be out by morning and if not airbnb will throw them out

It's by now after 1 AM and I'm beaten down

I check the cameras and see they left very early in the morning

She had the AC in the 60s so I entered a min temp from my app

My cleaner wants to know if they're gone and I said well I'm pretty sure but what do I know

But then at 8 pm the guest messages me saying "Hello how are you everything went well," and I'm like omg she came back at night and is insane I'm not answering her.

And I guess she's there now. I got worried they'd arry and trash the place but all seems quiet

But the exception to my overwhelmingly positive experiences w AirBnb support is that also if they're idiot know-nothings who don't even know AirBnbs rules and they're English is poor, well I got divorced back in the 90s but I guess I learned that I still can intimidate an overseas poor English speaker but pouring out all my rage at them and it felt good
