Ticktick's Desktop App is EXTREMELY poorly optimized - why and how we can fix it!

Hey all, recently noticed that TickTick's desktop app was super laggy whereas its web version was not. I was curious, so I ran an energy report on my Windows PC and found that:

  • TickTick desktop app requests a timer resolution of 1ms instead of the Windows default of 15.6ms. In other words, the Windows default is basically like checking your phone every 15 seconds, while TickTick is forcing a check every 1 second, all day, even when nothing is happening.
  • This consistently forces my computer's CPU to wake up far more frequently than necessary, slowing down the PC and leading to unnecessary battery drain/power mismanagement
  • Ironically, the TickTick app probably requests such a low timer resolution to ensure smooth animations, but in reality this practice actually ends up causing lag and degrading my PC's battery

My PC is around 4-5 years old at this point, so its performance isn't fantastic, but I believe that it's TickTick's poor optimization that is the primary cause of this problem. I do realize that some devs maintain their Mac app more their Windows app, so perhaps this is a Windows-only issue. Have any other Windows users experienced this issue as well? If you're a Mac user, how has your experience using the TickTick desktop app been?

I also think that if enough of us share our feedback, perhaps the dev team will be more inclined to improve how TickTick is optimized in the future for a more stable and power-efficient app. Thoughts?
