Abbotts New Tax Relief Bill

Can someone explain Abbotts “empowering Texas taxpayers” pledge that’s making its way around the news cycle today. It calls for historic property tax reform.

One thing that really stands out to me is that the county I’m in has increased my homes value every year the past 4 years by tens of thousands even after appealing. Part of what I read is that the bill will prevent this from happening yearly and move appraisals to 5 years.

They also want to reduce the amount that schools can tax home owners. I kind of don’t mind that, but 100% support education. I know that sounds backwards but have you seen what some school districts do with the money that does NOT benefit education? Some of these football stadiums are of the most expensive in the country. They use them a few nights a week in the fall. I don’t see that helping our kids to read better. But I also think sports are great, I played sports in high school. But sometimes I feel we are going too far with the facilities here. But is this a way to just continue to destroy education which we all know is Abbotts agenda? He hates public schools. This is really not my opinion, it’s clearly become a fact. Will our schools just not get funded then? I know some local districts by me are crying their eyes out that he got the vouchers but is still not funding them. But some of this districts have sports facilities that cost hundreds of millions to maintain and tens of thousands per month to upkeep. So I kind of think they shot themself in the foot there. But think we need better salaries for teachers, better insurance and better retirement so our kids get the best teachers.

I just don’t fully understand the bill. I support tax relief as some places in Texas are 2% over the national average in property tax, but is this just a backdoor way to destroy schools?

I support lower taxes because if your property tax goes up thousands a year, then people get priced out of their homes because I know my salary isn’t increasing thousands per year. It’s getting tougher and tougher each year for us.

Is the bill really trying to help us “regular people” or is this just a scam to hurt our kids?

I’m really just trying to weed out the good and the bad so I’m truly informed. Not trying to start some huge debate. Just want to learn.

My background: took the msf and got my first bike at 22, a ninja 500. At 25 upgraded to a GSXR 600 when those were the rage. I ended up selling that for a move up north, then learned there is like no riding season for a southerner lol. Sorry guys, below 50 I’m not riding. Well anyway I gave up riding for that reason. Now we have been relocated back south and I am working on getting another bike. It’s now been more than a decade since I rode(where did the time go? ) Aprilia was not even in my radar. I had been working to get a Zx6r that for sure is too much bike, and I don’t need it being a returning rider but I’m over 40 now and I owned a 600 when I was young and dumb and never dropped it. But the one I was looking at sold right from under me. I drug my feet. So yesterday I went to look at another zx6 across town (for houstonians you know this is like a small trip) and this dealer also sells aprilia. I fell in love with a black RS 660. What do you think? It’s obviously a better choice I think than a zx6. Am I expecting an experience kind of like a ninja 650 but maybe a little more aggressive. After I go lift today I’m going to spend the rest of my day on YouTube watching vids, but I want to see what you all think too. First post here btw. Maybe I’ll be joining the crew soon. Thanks.
