No money for jewelry? Just make some

I’ve been wanting some new jewelry recently and one thing has been cuffs and bangles. I didn’t have all the materials and certainly not $40+ to spend on one pair of new real leather jewelry.

I wasn’t quite sure what material to start with as I had leftover leather from a torn coat, but it was too flimsy. So I figured the next closest thing is a leather belt. I picked up a few from the thrift shop and measured and cut them.

I have some metal bits and pieces I’ve hoarded and bought for other/previous DIY projects. So I just figured out from images online how I should construct it. And here’s the results. I think they turned out quite alright, they still need an inner lining to hide the metal paper stud

Help, can’t get collar pattern to sit right!

I tried following two different peter pan collar (specifically I want this) tutorials for a collar that wraps all around, while flat it lays relatively well but right when it’s worn it’s like the collar doesn’t have enough lenght in a spot I can’t understand and it creates a very ugly, bad and badly fitting fold. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong and how to fix it.

See the pattern on the last page it’s been made with light blue/mint fabric.

Red markings show the folding

Also no the fabric isn’t ironed, please don’t suggest to just iron it ☹️ I’ve done it ironed before and after attaching yet the issue remains.

This collar hasn’t been sewn on because I know it wouldn’t work but needed to show the issue.

Studio makeover (after and before)

Just wanted to share this. We have a veryyy small one room studio dedicated for ceramics and painting. It’s been mostly up to me to manage this space and I decided to give it a visual but also functional makeover. I wanted something cozy and relaxing, bought and made stuff, re-organized shelves and color matched new and old decor.

Need advice on drying

Hey

I was informed on a very short time notice that I will be attending an event and need to bring ceramics.

I've been working on some pieces approximately all in the same thickness as this photo (1-2 cm thick).

I need to make sure everything is ready for the event which is in three weeks from now.

I've usually taken my time to dry ceramics well over 2 weeks. But now there's no time to waste. Does anyone have any advice on the following questions:

  1. How long do you usually dry your pieces for?

  2. How long might a piece like mine take to dry? (Pic)

  3. Anything I can do to speed up the drying process somewhat safely?

(I have a manual old kiln, there is no sunny weather to dry pottery in a box outside).

  1. Any other tips what I should do??

Nowadays I get spots occaisionally but they usually go away. The clearest my skin ever was, was around 10-14 months after quitting accutane. Never had any severe side effects. Just dryness. The lip dryness is still kind of a side effect that has stayed since.
