play with antennas and visualize the electromagnetic field

I’ve been building this EM simulator as a side project aimed to help students' understand and visualize electromagnetic phenomena such as radiation, polarization and wave interference.

You can:

  • place various radiation sources and set their parameters (amplitude, phase and more)
  • place perefect wire conductors
  • observe the electric field, magnetic field or energy flow field
  • zoom in and out and translate the canvas
  • change the simulation resolution, frequency and propogation speed

I hope somone might find useful and I’d love to hear what people think :)

(Not intended for mobiles but can still sort of work if you have accurate fingers)

Visualize the Electromagnetic Field

I’ve been building this antenna/EM simulator as a side project:

https://rotemtsafrir.github.io/dipole_sim/

The idea is to make it easy to place antennas, change their parameters, and immediately see how the fields and interference patterns change.

Right now you can use:

  • center-fed dipoles
  • Hertzian dipoles
  • small loop antennas
  • linear antenna arrays

The arrays are probably my favorite part so far. You can adjust spacing, phase difference, element count, orientation, etc., and see beam steering / broadside / end-fire behavior directly.

You can switch between electric field, magnetic field, and energy-flow visualizations, and pan/zoom around the simulation.

The antenna currents are prescribed, so things like mutual coupling, impedance, and passive conductors are not solved yet. I’m trying to keep it fast enough to be genuinely interactive.

I’d love to hear what people think—especially if you notice anything physically questionable or have ideas for features that would make it more useful.

Check out my side project: EM fields simulator

https://reddit.com/link/1psynrp/video/lyz8kdipy3th1/player

Link to website:

https://rotemtsafrir.github.io/dipole_sim/

You can:

  • add simple dipole antennas
  • change their magnitude and phase (by clicking on them)
  • display thr electric and magnetic fields
  • display energy flow
  • adjust the speed of wave propogation.
  • adjust the sources' freqency
  • drag on the screen to reveal new space
  • change simulation resolution (low, medium or high)

Best to use with a computer but sorta works for mobiles too.

Made with javascript and processing.
