Locals to Transplants in Tampa

What is one thing the locals wish the transplants knew about living in Tampa? Either something about the environment that might not be common knowledge and should be respected or cultural norms you think transplants might not be aware of and should, etc.

these are some of the things I've found in other places I didn't know.

  1. The heat and humidity from May through October are unrelenting, complete with near-daily, rapid afternoon thunderstorms. learn to schedule all outdoor activities in the mornings.
  2. Many long-time Tampa natives hold beliefs that locals invented the Cuban sandwich (and it must include salami?). Any suggestions on where to find a good Cuban sandwich?
  3. Gasparilla.

Public Workforce Views

Are there really not jobs/companies that value the employee anymore in public accounting? With all the layoffs I've asked around and everyone that's been in public a few years has said the same thing, it's the same everywhere. Is this really true? Are there no companies that actually value their employees anymore rather than just seeing a "tool" to use and discard when it's finished (I heard a partner use this terminology before when talking about employees).

So I survived the infamous RSM layoff email but honestly seeing how the firm is treating its people is a huge turn off for me. I literally chose RSM because my internship went so well and I loved the environment and people. Lo and behold while I'm finishing up my masters, there's a CEO change and everything they preached has gone to sh*t. I started in January as an audit associate. I have passed two of the CPA exams and plan to do the other two by August now that busy season is over. Does anyone have any advice on how I can go about finding a more secure job? I'm hoping to stay at RSM to get my work requirement and exams done then I'm dipping but honestly I don't even know where to start to look for a new job. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!
