Advice

Hi. I am a 20F in college and I’m looking for advice because I’m confused about a friendship ending.

I had a very close friendship with someone during my first year of school. We supported each other through difficult times, and this person was there for me when I was struggling emotionally. I also supported them when they needed me. I felt like we had a genuine friendship.

Over time, we stopped talking as much and went months without speaking. During that time, we did see each other once, and they were friendly. They asked me to help share a poster for a school campaign, thanked me afterward, and mentioned that we should study together sometime.

Recently, I decided to reach out and reconnect. We had a friendly conversation where we talked about school, their new role, being back home, and the upcoming year. I thanked them for being there for me during my first year and told them I was happy for them. I also asked why they never told me they got the role, and they said they forgot. I said it was in the past and moved on. The conversation ended with me being excited about the future.

Shortly after this, they removed from all socials . There was no argument or obvious conflict before this happened.

A mutual friend later told me that they didn’t think our friendship was the right fit anymore and that they didn’t feel we aligned as friends. They also reassured me that I didn’t do anything to hurt them.

I’m struggling because this person was once very important to me, and I don’t understand what changed. I’m wondering if I missed something, if I unintentionally hurt them, or if sometimes friendships just fade and one person moves on without a clear reason.

Has anyone experienced something similar? How would you interpret this situation?

Lets do better

As a student, I am tired of the normalized racism at this school.

Shaming a professor's ability to teach because of their accent or cultural background is NOT OKAY. These professors spent years becoming experts in their fields, and they deserve to be judged by their knowledge and teaching, not by their ethnicity, accent, or where they come from.

Telling a student they can't struggle in a course because they come from a certain country and are expected to be "smart" is NOT OKAY.

Asking someone why their English is "so good" because of how they look or where they come from is NOT OKAY.

Commenting on people's food or making them feel ashamed of their culture is NOT OKAY.

If you have ever felt undervalued or like you weren't enough because people mocked your culture, ethnicity, accent, or where you came from, let me tell you this: it is not you. It's them. You deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and the same opportunities as everyone else.

We can and should do better.
