Internal Transfer BMO question

Hi everyone, I have a question about BMO. I’m in a managerial-level position in T&O, but I’m frustrated with my leadership. I was hired as a manager but have never actually been given managerial responsibilities — I’ve been an individual contributor for almost three years now, and I’m done with it. Before looking externally, I know BMO pays well compared to other banks, so I’d rather try to find a role internally first. How does an internal transfer actually work? Do I just apply, interview with the hiring manager, and that’s it? Where does my current leadership come into play — what if they don’t want to release me? Do they have to give positive feedback before a transfer can go through? I don’t fully understand the process or the politics behind it — can someone explain?

NOTE: Posting it here in RBC sub as there is no dedicated BMO subreddit, very few members there.. thought of asking from peeps here who have previously been in BMO and know the process there..
