CREEPY INAPPROPRIATE UPDATE for the Couchsurfing App

Okay, there is some serial number in the app I spotted somewhere (can't remember which page now) and it had the sign of the dev*l (by which I mean three particular digits repeated in a row).

And the profile text is weird too... it says we support you vices, under the question of asking if you smoke or drink or something. It now asks for sexuality, which okay maybe you want to state that to be clear, but that also suggests more of a dating app.

And when you go to hangout, it puts a spot on the map where you are, so it shows your streets (approximately). It shows your neighbourhood. That is a bit invasive. So people are viewing where I am who are not even talking to me.

I no longer can find if someone is hosting, maybe hosting or wants to hang out.

I read other people say they cannot see when someone was last active. Can you write text under your photos, like this is the common space in my place, or this is when I was on a trip to such and such country?

It's sad. Years ago Couchsurfing seemed to have more active members. Maybe since they required pay in some cases, or since COVID it went down a bit, not sure exactly now, and now who knows...

What is this? Is it not supposed to be a community of meeting travelers and locals, and for some people having a place to crash on a couch? They are making those things harder. What is this??

Anyone else feel like they are losing their minds when dealing with AirBnB Support?

I had to leave my AirBnB early due to a problem with the bed (suspected mites of some sort).

I informed the host of the bed problem. I even found his anti-mite bed spray can. He denied it.

I contact AirBnB Support and they agreed to refund me for the unused days. I was already in a hotel. So the agreement was AirBnB would give me my money back for those future upcoming days, in exchange for me officially checking out. I agree to that.

But then, AirBnB Support instead just changes my reservation to make it shorter, which loses me the long-term discount! In effect, this just significantly increases the cost of my stay, leaving very little left over to "refund" me. That is not actually refunding me the money I paid for unused days. That is increasing the cost, but making the stay shorter.

I would never have agreed to that and I did not agree to that. I would have just kept the AirBnB if that was the only option, and slept in the clean hotel bed while using the AirBnB kitchen.

This is the difference between critical thinking and just mindlessly clicking buttons. And this is just one of a few examples with AirBnB Support that I have :(

I think I have another year or two, if it's not already too late, to say a few more things to my parents about their abuse, before public opinion would be more universally against me, just given my parents age.

Then after that, as they get older and older and really into their elderly years, I will hope I have already said things before then, and I did, years ago already and a couple years back when we were in person after some time of NC and VLC. And it was the same decade they did the most atrocious things to me (as an adult but I was a sick patient).

But so many people fall back on stereotypes and stuff and they'll eventually say oh they're just sweet old people trying to be sweet and nice and they mean well, blah blah. And they'll say you're beating up on old people (even if I'm not doing anything except once a year if someone asks me for an update, I stick to the truth).

It feels like a low blow for someone to respond to the truth of abuse with "come on, they're old". Where was that when many of us were younger? Where was the "come on, that's your son" or "come on, that's your daughter" or "hey he's only 10" or "hey he just moved out, he's starting his own life". It's one thing if I go scream in their faces every day (they did worse), but I'm just talking about in a conversation I state a fact of what they did. So what that now they are old. That doesn't change facts.

I'm just so sick of all the people around my parents who completely threw me under the bus.

Hey guys.

Is it true you do not use seat belts?

I do not know the answer, because my only experience in Bolivia in cars is in taxis (InDriver, other taxis) and 100% of the time, I believe, the seat belts in the back seat ARE NOT EVEN ACCESSIBLE. They are not even there. Maybe some are broken off, or hidden under the seats, and just not able to be used.

I noticed at least once the driver did not even have his on. But other times maybe they had their own seat belts on.

Maybe this is about inconsideration more than the actual seat belt issue? Maybe the seat belt is inaccessible and they do not care nor bother to get it unstuck for the customer and fellow human being.

How is it in normal cars? Do you wear seat belts? Do people wear seat belts in back seats?

Do you know what the logic or feeling is around not wearing seat belts?
