Wat skud? Hoekom is r/Afrikaans so stil?

Ek het nou die dag gedink om weer een van my paintings hier te deel, want die subreddit is die laaste paar weke bra stil. Maar die Auto-mod het besluit my painting met 'n dame in 'n swembroek is te wulps vir PG-13.

Hoekom is dinge so stil hier?

Monthly zine update: I've published 41 zines over the past 36 months

I've been running a monthly zine subscription via Patreon since August 2023. Tallied my published zines today (and updated my Ko-fi), and I've published 41 zines since starting this creative project back in 2023.

Extreme ear!

Two weeks ago I had a disaster of a bake. We were away for a short trip with family, so I didn't have my normal baking gear I use. With friends coming over for lunch today, I decided I want to redeem myself.

88g starter

350g bread flour

240g water

8g salt

Mix water and starter. Add flour and salt. Mix by hand until shaggy dough. Leave for 30-40 minutes. Stretch and coil fold every 40 minutes. I usually do three stretches and folds before letting it ferment in peace. It was semi-cold yesterday, so in total fermentation took about 10-11 hours. Pre-shape and bench rest for 10 minutes before final shape. Then into the banneton and fridge for overnight cold ferment.

Pre-heat oven with dutch oven for 20 minutes at 250c. Score dough, place in the hot dutch oven on parchment paper, spray dough two or three times with a water spritzer and add an ice cube in the dutch oven for steam.

This is the most aggressive ear I have gotten. Not unhappy about it, even though this bread is going to be used to make a garlic bread to go with our BBQ lunch.

She's not perfect, but I made her myself

The drawing on the cover was conceptualized months ago. About three weeks ago I finished the cover drawing. The back leg was a disaster, along with a few other things I wasn't happy with. But the story was written and the show had to go on. I started the other drawing, and again made terrible mistakes. I draw a pencil first and then ink, but there are still many imperfections. I've learnt that I need to draw more hands and feet. A lot more. Still like how it came together, mistakes and all.

She not perfect, but I'm leaning harder into imperfections. A.I. can never fill up a physical notebook

Proof of Work - An unintentional collaborative mini-zine for my subscribers for the month of June

A journalist friend is trying to get away from writing about politics and the like, and is trying to shift more into art and culture journalism. He asked me if he could interview me for an artist profile so that he could potentially use it as part of his writing portfolio. I agreed. After reading what he wrote, I asked if he would help me chop it down to a length I could fit into a perzine. This is the end result.

Anyone know when the I.S.R.U. General Purpose Participation Shoe starts shipping?

I just checked my emails and they say the shoe starts shipping summer 2026. Is it not the middle of summer in the US right now?

"I have essentially perfect credentials." - Eric Weinstein

Christ, these "intellectuals" are insufferable. My brother is also a professor at a university, and I experience the same insufferable behaviour when I spend time around his colleagues. They all think they are the smartest people alive because they have spent their entire lives in the academic system. Yet, outside of the academic system most of them are utterly useless and out of depth. They have zero real world or practical experience, but love to talk about themselves as if they are so far above anyone that isn't a drone in the academic system of a university.

What if Kurt Cobain wrote a zine about AI and privacy?

Hey everyone,

I wanted to explore the terrifyingly prophetic nature of Nirvana’s lyrics when applied to modern digital culture. Specifically how we've traded our privacy for convenience and offloaded our critical thinking to algorithms.

The concept is a speculative, alt-history artifact: What if Kurt Cobain was looking at our current tech landscape through the lens of early '90s apathy and anti-consumerism?

It explores the "anemic royalty" of having infinite info but no control, ending with a heavily ironic meta-joke about the zine itself pointing to a Spotify playlist.

I've been lucky enough to visit Tokyo and Ha Noi over the last year. I discovered Uniqlo in Japan, and always regretted only buying a few items of clothing when I was in Tokyo. Then, a few weeks ago I was exploring Ha Noi and discovered a Uniqlo store there. I bought two Jean-Michele Basquiat t-shirts and brought the shopping bag home with me to use to make a notebook as a memento of my travels to these two amazing cities.
