Project Legacy | Patch 1.12.4 Arrives August 26th | Guild Banks, New Arena Challenge & Talent Inspection

A couple of weeks ago, we shared our plans for Patch 1.12.4 and the World Discoveries system.

Today, we have a release date.

Patch 1.12.4 launches Wednesday, August 26th at 8:00 PM UK time.

There has, however, been a change to what will be included in the patch.

When we announced World Discoveries, we knew filling Azeroth with handcrafted Discoveries would take time. What we underestimated was just how much time.

Every Discovery is manually designed, placed, scripted where necessary, given appropriate rewards and tested. As we've continued building them, it became clear that properly populating the world to the standard we want would take considerably longer than originally anticipated.

We don't want to hold back the entire update until Discoveries are finished, but we also don't want to rush them simply to get 1.12.4 out the door.

Instead, World Discoveries will remain in development while Patch 1.12.4 moves forward with other new content and features.

We'd rather take the extra time to make Discoveries worth finding while continuing to give players new things to do in the meantime.

So, here's what's coming on August 26th.

Guild Banks

Patch 1.12.4 introduces fully functional Guild Banks to Project Legacy.

Guilds will finally have shared storage for crafting materials, consumables, equipment and anything else their members want to contribute.

We've deliberately kept the initial cost low because we want Guild Banks to support communities as they form and grow on the server, rather than becoming something only wealthy and established guilds can afford.

The costs are:

  • Tab 1: 50g
  • Tab 2: 50g
  • Tab 3: 100g
  • Tab 4: 200g
  • Each additional tab continues to double in price

This gives even a relatively new guild an accessible way to get shared storage, while additional tabs remain something guilds can gradually work towards as they grow.

A New Challenge in Gadgetzan

Something new is waiting in Gadgetzan for players around levels 45-50.

Inspired by Ring of Blood style encounters, players will step into the arena and fight their way through five increasingly difficult rounds.

Each round rewards a substantial amount of experience, and players capable of surviving all five will finish with a choice of powerful new blue-quality rewards appropriate for the level range.

The Gadgetzan arena is likely the most heavily scripted quest encounter in the entirety of Vanilla WoW.

Rather than five ordinary kill quests chained together, the whole thing functions as a scripted arena event. Each victory progresses the encounter into its next round, new opponents enter the arena and the challenge continues to build towards the final fight.

A significant amount of work has gone into making the sequence feel like an actual event taking place around the players rather than simply another series of kill quests.

It's the kind of content we want to keep adding to Project Legacy: something completely new that gives players another reason to visit an existing part of Azeroth while still feeling at home in Vanilla.

Talent Inspection

Patch 1.12.4 also brings a smaller addition that we think will be useful to just about everyone.

You can now see another player's talents when inspecting them.

You'll be able to see exactly how another player has chosen to build their character directly through the normal inspection interface.

Simple, useful, and something that feels like it could have always been part of Vanilla.

What About World Discoveries?

They're still coming.

World Discoveries have not been cancelled or abandoned.

The underlying system is already implemented and functional. The bottleneck isn't the technology behind Discoveries, it's creating enough good content to properly populate Azeroth with them.

Every Discovery is manually designed and placed, and many require their own scripting, rewards and testing.

We don't want exploration to consist of hundreds of copy-pasted objects scattered around the map just so we can say the feature is finished.

The entire point of the system is that wandering away from the road might lead you to something interesting: a forgotten camp, a profession interaction, a strange relic, a hidden quest, a temporary buff, a secret area or something else you weren't expecting.

That only works if the things you find are actually worth finding.

Rather than rushing them, reducing the scope of the system or leaving the server without an update for an extended period, we've chosen to separate Discoveries from the release of Patch 1.12.4.

Development will continue after the patch releases, and our plans for the system haven't changed.

We're simply giving ourselves the time to do it properly.

Patch 1.12.4 - August 26th

Patch 1.12.4 launches Wednesday, August 26th at 8:00 PM UK time.

The update will include:

  • Guild Banks
  • A new five-round Gadgetzan arena challenge for levels 45-50
  • Large experience rewards and new blue-quality arena rewards
  • Talent inspection
  • Further fixes and improvements

Project Legacy has now been live for just over a month, and we're continuing with the same approach we started with: one persistent Vanilla realm that keeps growing through new patches rather than seasons and resets.

There's plenty more we're working on beyond 1.12.4, including the continued development of World Discoveries.

If you've been watching Project Legacy from the sidelines, August 26th is a good time to jump in.

Project Legacy | Vanilla+ Three Weeks In | 7,300+ Hours Played, First Patch Live, Second Patch Announced

Three weeks ago, on July 17th, Project Legacy opened its doors.

The idea behind Project Legacy is simple. We wanted a version of Vanilla WoW that could keep receiving updates without losing the game that made us want to play Vanilla in the first place.

Not a seasonal realm. Not Vanilla with a completely different game bolted onto it. Not a rush to replace everything at level 60.

The goal is to continue Azeroth.

New quests in the original zones. New dungeons and encounters that feel like they belong there. More reasons to explore the world. Improvements to specs and professions that were left behind. New challenges for leveling and endgame players. All released as continued patches to one persistent Vanilla+ realm.

We're now three weeks in, so we wanted to share how things are going and what we've been working on.

Three weeks of Project Legacy

So far, players have:

  • Created 1,000+ characters
  • Spent more than 7,300 hours in-game
  • That's over 305 combined days in Azeroth
  • Kept 128 auctions on the Auction House at the time we checked
  • Somehow made Paladin the most popular class
  • Chosen the Alliance by a fairly convincing 62% to 38% margin

We've also had 206 accounts active in the last seven days, with 102 new accounts created during the same period.

And apparently somebody really likes their character, because our highest /played is already over 11 days.

The race to 60 has only just begun

On July 31st, exactly two weeks after launch, Project Legacy had its first ever level 60.

Only a handful of players have reached 60 so far, which means the server is still very much in that early period where people are leveling, forming groups, building the economy and preparing for endgame.

Two players have already managed something a little more ridiculous too.

They reached level 60 as Lorewalkers.

Lorewalker is an optional leveling challenge that cuts mob experience by 50%, encouraging you to quest and travel through far more of Azeroth on the journey to 60. Lorewalkers receive milestone rewards along the way and an exclusive mount for completing the challenge.

If you're somebody who actually enjoys the journey through Vanilla rather than treating 1 to 60 as something to get out of the way, that's exactly what the mode was made for.

Patch 1.12.3: What Lies Beneath is live

July 31st was also the release of our first post-launch update:

Patch 1.12.3: What Lies Beneath

At the heart of the patch is Karazhan Crypts, a new 10-player dungeon built more along the lines of Upper Blackrock Spire than a traditional raid.

It's our first major piece of new group content and represents a big part of what we want to do with Project Legacy: take places, stories and ideas already present in Vanilla and expand on them without making them feel disconnected from the original world.

The patch also brought further class work and continued additions to Azeroth.

And we're not stopping at 1.12.3.

Patch 1.12.4: World Discoveries has been announced

Our second post-launch update is already in development.

Patch 1.12.4: World Discoveries is focused on making the world itself more rewarding to explore.

Vanilla has a huge world, but once you've played it enough times, you know where the quests are, where the flight paths are and where you're supposed to go next.

We want to put some mystery back into that.

World Discoveries will introduce things to find throughout existing zones, including discoveries tied to professions and exploration, with rewards aimed at making the leveling journey more interesting rather than turning them into mandatory endgame chores.

The update will also continue our work on professions, giving crafting professions more identity and more reasons to remain useful to the character who learned them.

It's a different kind of update from What Lies Beneath, and that's intentional.

One patch might add a new dungeon. Another might make exploring Azeroth more interesting. Another might focus on professions, classes, quests or endgame.

The world should keep growing.

So what is actually different about Project Legacy?

Alongside our new content, Project Legacy currently includes:

  • TBC-style 1 to 60 experience requirements
  • New lore-friendly quests integrated into existing Vanilla zones
  • 25-player raids
  • No world buffs inside raids
  • No boss debuff limit
  • Optional Hard Mode encounters
  • Cross-faction grouping, guilds, raids, trading and communication
  • Dual Talent Specialization
  • War Mode, with bonus quest XP for players willing to enable world PvP
  • Lorewalker Mode, for players who want a longer leveling journey
  • Prestige Mode, allowing level 60 characters to start their journey again for cosmetic progression
  • Reworks for underperforming specializations while preserving their Vanilla identity
  • A custom Guardian of Hyjal world boss
  • No GDKP
  • No multiboxing
  • No mage boosting
  • No purchasable player power

Most importantly, Project Legacy is persistent.

We're not building towards a reset where everything you've done disappears and everybody starts again next season.

We want characters, guilds, reputations, professions and accomplishments to mean something years down the line while Azeroth continues receiving new content around them.

If you've been waiting to try it, this is a good time

We're not going to pretend Project Legacy has thousands of players online at once.

We're a young Vanilla+ server that has been public for three weeks.

But that also means you haven't missed the beginning.

The first 60 only happened on July 31st. Most of the realm is still leveling. The economy is still developing. Our first content patch has just released. Our second has just been announced.

There isn't a mountain of progression you need to catch up on before you can participate.

If you've wanted to get into a Vanilla+ project while it's still at the beginning of its story, come give Project Legacy a try.

We're going to keep building it.

Project Legacy | Patch 1.12.3: What Lies Beneath is Live | A Look at Our Upcoming Discoveries System

https://preview.redd.it/2jkvts5007hh1.png?width=1672&format=png&auto=webp&s=b9fa8c67f97988820017562ef6ebb7c69aebfe9a

Hi everyone!

A few days ago we released Patch 1.12.3: What Lies Beneath, the first major content update for Project Legacy, our Vanilla 1.12 Classic+ server.

The update introduced our first custom 10-player dungeon, Karazhan Crypts, complete reworks for Arms Warrior and Assassination Rogue, improvements to grey quest experience, Prestige progression updates, and dozens of bug fixes and quality of life improvements.

While 1.12.3 has only just launched, we've already begun talking about one of the biggest features coming in our next major update, Patch 1.12.4.

Making Azeroth Worth Exploring Again

One of the things we've always loved about Vanilla is how mysterious the world felt.

You'd wander into a cave simply because you were curious.

You'd climb a mountain just to see what was waiting at the top.

You'd stumble across strange places with no quest directing you there.

Over the years that feeling slowly disappeared as players optimized every leveling route and every secret became a marker on a map.

We wanted to bring that feeling back.

Patch 1.12.4 introduces Discoveries, a brand new exploration system that adds hundreds of handcrafted secrets throughout Azeroth.

While leveling you may discover forgotten camps, abandoned supply caches, ancient relics, hidden shrines, buried treasure, secret caves, profession discoveries, temporary world buffs, and occasionally hidden questlines waiting to be uncovered.

Every Discovery can only be completed once per character, grants experience appropriate for the level of the zone you're exploring, and includes level requirements to keep progression balanced.

To keep exploration feeling fresh, many Discoveries rotate between multiple possible spawn locations every few days. Some rotate every two days, while others rotate every three, meaning players can't simply memorize a single route or follow the same guide forever. Exploration remains part of the experience.

When you choose to Prestige, every completed Discovery resets, giving you a fresh world to explore all over again.

Bringing Professions Into the World

We're also expanding the role professions play while you're out adventuring.

Every gathering and crafting profession has handcrafted Discoveries hidden throughout Azeroth that can reward experience, profession materials, useful items, cosmetic rewards, profession-specific quests, and unique questlines.

The world itself also reacts to professions.

A Miner can clear a collapsed cave entrance.

A Skinner can carve open the remains of a massive beast to reveal a hidden cave beneath.

An Enchanter can dispel an ancient magical barrier.

An Engineer can repair forgotten machinery.

Opening one of these barriers allows everyone nearby to enter the hidden area before it naturally closes again. Depending on what's hidden inside, players may find treasure, rare enemies, hidden Discoveries, profession rewards, or perhaps even something nobody has found before.

Coming in Patch 1.12.4

The Discoveries system itself is already complete.

We're currently testing it and filling Azeroth with handcrafted content before release.

The first release will include Discoveries throughout every level 1-30 zone, with additional zones being expanded over future updates until the entire world has been covered.

If you've been watching Project Legacy from the sidelines and were waiting to see what direction the server was taking, hopefully this gives you an idea of what we're building.

We're trying to create the Classic+ experience we've always wanted to play while staying true to the spirit of Vanilla.

Project Legacy | First Major Content Update - Patch 1.12.3: What Lies Beneath

This Friday, July 31 at 8:00 PM BST (7:00 PM UTC), Project Legacy receives its first major content update since launch.

Patch 1.12.3: What Lies Beneath introduces our first custom dungeon, two additional class reworks, and major improvements to progression and leveling as we continue expanding Vanilla World of Warcraft with brand new content.

Karazhan Crypts

Our first custom dungeon has arrived.

Hidden beneath the tower lies Karazhan Crypts, a brand new 10-player dungeon built exclusively for Project Legacy. Designed as the next challenge after Upper Blackrock Spire, the Crypts feature completely custom boss encounters, unique mechanics, and powerful rewards for those brave enough to descend into the darkness.

Inside you'll find:

  • A five-part attunement questline
  • Seven unique boss encounters
  • Difficulty tuned for a coordinated 10-player group
  • Rewards comparable to Upper Blackrock Spire
  • Completely custom scripting and encounter mechanics

We're intentionally keeping the bosses and their abilities a secret. We want everyone to experience the Crypts for the first time together.

New Class Reworks

Patch 1.12.3 continues our ongoing class redesigns with two additional specializations.

Arms Warrior

  • Redesigned talent tree
  • Improvements throughout the specialization
  • Brand new 31-point capstone talent

Assassination Rogue

  • Redesigned talent tree
  • Permanent poisons
  • Improved poison gameplay
  • Brand new 31-point capstone talent

Preview the updated talent trees here:

For a full breakdown of every class change included in Patch 1.12.3:

Prestige Improvements

With Prestige Mode approaching, we identified a progression issue before players reached level 60.

Without restrictions, players could complete high-level quests before prestiging, bank the rewards, then immediately equip powerful quest gear after resetting their character. While players would still need to earn those rewards, this would allow them to bypass much of the intended Prestige progression.

To preserve that progression while still allowing players to prepare ahead, quest reward equipment now requires the minimum level needed to begin the quest before it can be equipped.

Prestige players can still complete quests, collect every reward, and store the items in their bank. They'll simply need to reach the appropriate level before equipping them.

Improved Grey Quest Experience

Grey quests have always awarded reduced experience, but the reduction in Vanilla is so aggressive that finishing older quest chains often feels unrewarding.

Patch 1.12.3 introduces a new grey quest scaling system that significantly increases the experience awarded while still encouraging players to move on to higher-level content.

Experience now scales as follows:

  • 0–5 levels above: 100% XP
  • 6 levels above: 90% XP
  • 7 levels above: 80% XP
  • 8 levels above: 70% XP
  • 9 levels above: 60% XP
  • 10–12 levels above: 50% XP
  • 13–15 levels above: 40% XP
  • 16+ levels above: 30% XP

This makes it far more rewarding to finish quest chains after out-leveling them without turning low-level content into the fastest way to level.

Looking Ahead

This is our first major content update since launch, but it's only the beginning.

Karazhan Crypts is the first of many custom dungeons planned for Project Legacy, with additional class reworks, new raids, world content, and entirely new adventures already in development.

Thank you to everyone who has joined us over the past two weeks. Every bug report, balance suggestion, and piece of feedback has helped shape this update, and we're excited to keep building the Vanilla+ experience we've always wanted to play.

If you're looking for a long-term Vanilla 1.12 Classic+ server focused on expanding the original game rather than replacing it, we'd love to have you join us.

Project Legacy - Vanilla WoW Classic+ | One Week Since Launch

Hi everyone,

It's hard to believe it's already been one week since Project Legacy launched.

First of all, thank you to everyone who has joined us so far. Whether you've been questing, running dungeons, reporting bugs or simply sharing feedback, you've helped shape the server during its first week online.

Since launch we've been working every day on bug fixes, class tuning, quality-of-life improvements and polishing the overall experience. Player feedback has been invaluable, and we've already implemented numerous fixes based directly on suggestions from the community.

One of the biggest milestones this week is that Project Legacy is no longer being developed by just one person. We've expanded the development team, allowing us to work on multiple systems simultaneously, respond to issues more quickly and deliver future updates at a much faster pace. This is a huge step forward for the long-term future of the project.

Our first major content update is already well underway and will be announced soon. Alongside continued polish and balance improvements, it'll introduce new content that continues our vision of expanding Vanilla without losing what made it special.

For those who haven't seen Project Legacy before, our goal has always been simple: create a Vanilla+ experience that feels like a natural continuation of World of Warcraft 1.12 rather than turning it into something completely different.

Instead of raising the level cap or filling the game with borrowed expansion systems, we've focused on meaningful additions that feel like they could have existed in the original game.

Current features include:

• Original 1.12.1 client - No expansion client required.

• 1x experience with a TBC leveling curve - Experience rates remain 1x, but the experience required per level uses The Burning Crusade's smoother leveling curve. It still feels like Vanilla, just without some of the unnecessary grind.

• Cross-faction groups, guilds and raids - Play with your friends regardless of faction while still preserving the Alliance vs Horde world.

• Dual Talent Specialization - Save two talent builds and swap between them without constantly paying to respec.

• War Mode - Opt into world PvP whenever you want for a 10% bonus to quest experience while leveling.

• Lorewalker Mode - An optional leveling mode for players who enjoy completing every quest and exploring every zone, featuring unique cosmetic rewards earned throughout your journey.

• Prestige Mode - Upon reaching level 60, begin a new journey while keeping your long-term progression, earning exclusive cosmetic rewards with each Prestige.

• Class improvements - Carefully designed updates for underperforming Vanilla specs, making more playstyles raid-viable while preserving each class's identity.

• 25-player raids - Endgame content has been redesigned around 25-player raids instead of 40, making organizing raids easier without sacrificing challenge.

• Optional Onyxia Hard Mode - Raid leaders can activate a harder version of the encounter for additional rewards while leaving the standard fight unchanged.

• Debuff cap removed - More classes and specs become useful in raids without competing for limited debuff slots.

• World buffs disabled inside raids - Progression is based on preparation, teamwork and execution rather than spending hours collecting buffs beforehand.

• New quests and custom world content - Additional leveling content designed to blend seamlessly into the original world.

• Progressive content release - Future raids, dungeons and features will unlock over time, giving every stage of progression room to breathe.

Project Legacy isn't a seasonal server. We're building it as a long-term home for players who love Vanilla and want to see it continue to grow in a way that respects Blizzard's original design.

If you're looking for a Vanilla+ server that's actively developed, community-driven and committed to meaningful long-term updates, we'd love to have you join us.

We hope to see you in Azeroth.

• Built on the original 1.12.1 client
• Cross-faction groups, guilds, raids and chat

• War Mode

Project Legacy - Vanilla WoW Classic+ | Launching Next Friday - Development Update

It's hard to believe we're only one week away from launch.

Since announcing Project Legacy, we've continued polishing the server and managed to squeeze in several additional features on top of everything that was already planned for Open Beta.

Here's a quick look at what's been added over the past week.

Project Legacy Group Finder will now be available from day one. Built using Turtle WoW's fantastic open-source LFG addon as a foundation, we've expanded and integrated it into Project Legacy to make finding dungeon groups significantly easier while preserving the Vanilla experience.

Onyxia Hard Mode has also made it into launch.

Before engaging Onyxia, the raid leader can choose to disturb the Black Dragon Egg, awakening her full fury. This completely optional challenge rewards an additional guaranteed epic item along with a mysterious new item, the Broodmother's Sigil, whose purpose won't become clear until Molten Core arrives. Hard Mode exists purely for players looking for an extra challenge and will never put players who prefer Normal Mode at a gameplay disadvantage.

• Our launcher has received a complete visual overhaul and is now on Version 1.0.6, providing a cleaner interface, a smoother installation process and a much more polished first impression.

• We've continued improving our in-house bot detection system, allowing our team to identify suspicious behaviour much earlier before bots can run unchecked for hours or even days.

• We've also completed our in-house RMT investigation tools. Every trade, mail and gold transfer is logged, giving our GM team significantly more context when investigating suspected gold buying or selling. We also have live alerts for suspicious activity, helping us respond quickly while keeping the exact detection methods private.

Alongside all of this we've continued working on class tuning, bug fixes, launcher improvements, additional quests and countless smaller quality-of-life improvements as we prepare for launch.

The screenshots below show just a handful of the additions coming with Project Legacy. If you'd like to read more detailed breakdowns of our systems and features, feel free to visit the website or join the Discord.

Project Legacy launches next Friday, July 17, as an Open Beta.

We look forward to seeing you all there.

[Vanilla+] Project Legacy | Open Beta July 17 | Progressive Vanilla | 1x (TBC XP) | VMaNGOS

Hi everyone,

Project Legacy is a Vanilla+ server built around a simple philosophy:

Expand Vanilla without leaving Vanilla behind.

Rather than introducing new classes, increasing the level cap or adding borrowed power systems, the goal is to build upon the original 1.12 experience while preserving the gameplay, progression and identity that made Vanilla special.

Server Information

  • Client: World of Warcraft 1.12.1
  • Core: VMaNGOS
  • Content: Progressive Vanilla
  • Experience Rate: 1x (using The Burning Crusade 1–60 XP values)
  • Open Beta: July 17, 2026

Leveling

The leveling experience has been expanded with hundreds of handcrafted quests, alongside The Burning Crusade 1–60 experience curve while maintaining 1x experience rates.

The goal is to preserve Vanilla's pacing while reducing the need for excessive grinding between zones and allowing questing to remain the primary way of leveling.

Class Reworks

The class changes available during Open Beta are the first balance pass, focusing on several of Vanilla's weakest and least-played specializations while preserving their original identity.

Current Open Beta reworks include:

  • Retribution Paladin
  • Protection Paladin
  • Balance Druid
  • Shadow Priest
  • Elemental Shaman
  • Melee Survival Hunter

Additional class balance updates are planned after Open Beta as development continues.

Launch Features

  • Progressive Vanilla progression
  • Cross-faction groups, guilds, raids and chat
  • Dual Talent Specialization
  • War Mode
  • Lorewalker Mode
  • Prestige Mode
  • Debuff cap removed
  • World buffs disabled inside raids

Open Beta Content

The Open Beta focuses on leveling and early endgame while keeping raid progression intact.

Available at launch:

  • All leveling dungeons
  • Onyxia's Lair
  • Guardian of Hyjal (new custom world boss)
  • PvP battlegrounds and rankings
  • Progressive endgame
  • Hundreds of new quests
  • Initial class reworks
  • Cross-faction gameplay
  • Dual Spec
  • Prestige Mode
  • War Mode
  • Lorewalker Mode

Molten Core, Dire Maul and the remaining raid content are already complete but intentionally disabled for progression. They will unlock over time as the server progresses through Vanilla's content.

If you're looking for a Vanilla+ server that stays true to the original game while thoughtfully expanding it, we'd love to have you join us.
