Bike Couriers: You must master your market-places...

Quick retrospective: Back during the pandemic, we Bike-couriers were able to pull-up to any market-place, ..park for a few minutes and watch the orders flood in.

Haha...

Those days are long gone for bike-couriers in this current age of over-saturation.

We have literal conglomerates of people(I wont identify them) whom coordinate together

and seize market-places, monopolizing tags among each other for extended blocks of time.

..

For bike-couriers, this may seem daunting but thee answer is:

In this post-pandemic dry era of over-saturation and severe bottle-necking,

-you must master your market-places

-you must, through analytic-appraisal, know thee courier-volume of a specific region BEFORE you enter it(courier-volume specific to car-couriers as opposed to bike-couriers).

-you must radiate in areas where car-couriers are a scarcity(which ultimately relegates you to polarized hours/shifts...AKA, either the early mornings or the latter hours)

-you must not park among a cluster of car-couriers. If you breach a market-place full of car-couriers, you must park about a half-block away from them in order for the algorithm to field you an order

-Any Bike-courier worth his salt has a backpack on him. If so, keep a laptop/chromebook or tablet on you so that you can do some gaming/youtubing in between tags. A PC laptop with the PPSSPP emulator installed is ideal because you need not an internet connection to have a plethora of games at your fingertips. PPSSPP allows you to play Sony PSP games on your laptop. Small hacks like these assuage thee huge time-gaps between tags for we Bike-couriers. We are in a slow era for bike-couriers so you need to utilize entertainment-measures to maintain your morale during the *delivery-desert

I beckon other Bike-couriers to yield more input as I'm sure that there is an abundance of

hacks that are yet to be exposed in this post.

SaLute to the steadfast proud, strong, and few who endured the pandemic and are STILL out here on the pavement, shifting gears!

Bike-Couriers Activate-Doordash ChronicLez:  Merchant Preps, Courier picks-up edition….

Sactown, LandPark edition....

Boom!
I get a hit last nite for 7-Eleven,..
Generally, they tend to be efficient but every-now-and-then, dem ninjaz get outta pocket.
I slide thru for the pick-up and dude is telling me to grab the items….
Word? ? ……….
Naw Sun!
Lemme explain to you how this works:
..
..
*conversation verbatim
..
..
Him:  Go grab this, this, and this…
Me:  Thats YOUR job!  I’m the Courier, YOU are the merchant.  My job is to pick-up the order, ..YOUR JOB is to *prepare the order!
..
I said that to him deadpan in front of all the customers in there.  It got heated and I was ready to flip some s%^&$t upside down in there because he was doing way too much.
..
It got so real, A Sista pulled me outside and gave me a joint because she knew where I was about to take it…
SaLute to that Queen…(South Sactown Represent, You was sexy too, I’ll smoov put my tongue in yo booty, Queen.  Word Bond!)
Lemme get focused…..
..
Fast-forward..
I make the drop.
Come back to 7-ELeven to reach an understanding with dude
because this is a viable marketplace and I dont want his incompetence
stifling my economics.
Man Listen….
Soon as I come in there, he says he forgot an item and already had it pre-bagged for me!
Word? ? ? ….
A Courier is a Shinobi and nothing is above the mission, accordingly, I take that overlooked item back to the customer, explain the merchants incompetence to retain the honor of my name, and come back.
..
Here’s the sweetest part of the story…….
The FamiLy already knew who made the mistake so they gave me a 20$ tip for coming back…..
..
Moral of the story,...
To all Couriers reading this:

When that Merchant is bullshy^%^%tting and deflecting their responsibilities onto YOU, you make sure that you check that shy&^%t with the utmost resolve & resilience.  Remain steadfast, adhere to the principles of the Courier ethos and fearlessly hold the merchant accountable when
they are clearly transgressing.
Peace to all my Courier dem who walk the path….

Finally had to breakdown & teach myself to do a cable-tension adjustment....

Peace,..

Watched a couple youtube videos a few months back but never applied the knowledge.

Recently, about 6 weeks ago swapped-out my 7-speed cassette for a 6-speed on my roadbike.

She originally came with a 6-speed but I had to adopt a 7-speed at the time because I wanted index-shifters and my local bike-shop only had 7-speed-compatible index shifters.

Long story short, I didn't like the 7-speed, ...came back to 6-speed and re-fitted my baby with friction-shifters. Maybe a week after the re-fit, I noticed I was having problems down-shifting into 1st-gear from 2nd-gear, but had no trouble upshifting from 5th to 6th.

Went to a couple local bike shops in Sac and was told that a basic cable-tension adjustment would cost me about 20 bucks.

Nope!

I dont mind dropping 20 bucks on a bike repair but not for a mere tension adjustment.

The stress finally got to me today and I pulled over in a McDonalds parking lot, pulled out my

pocket-knife, and did it myself in 2 minutes based off of what I saw in the youtube videos.

Greatest decision I ever made in my life(you know how much cold beer I can buy with 20 bucks? ..LOLOLOOLL).

Cant believe I stressed over something so easy to do.

But the lesson is, this lets me know that I need

to go to Sac Bike Kitchen and completely learn

how to service my roadbike on my own.

Its a great feeling....

Salute to all my fellow cyclist.

Roadie for Life!
