so i was getting bored and decided to do something random with my remaining French fries 😂🍟

i tried making the where winds meet logo out of fries, and that actually got me thinking...

what does this logo actually mean? 🤔

so i did some research and found some really interesting stuff that i wanted to share with my fellow players.

🌬️ what does “where winds meet” mean?

according to the developers, wind represents freedom and limitless possibilities.

but they use “winds” in the plural for a reason.

the different winds represent people with different thoughts, beliefs, organizations and wandering martial artists who all follow their own paths.

when those different winds meet, they can collide, influence each other and eventually merge.

basically, where winds meet is the place where different people, ideas and paths come together — which fits the jianghu perfectly.

🏮 but what about the Chinese name?

this is where it gets even more interesting.

the chinese name of the game is:

燕云十六声

which can be translated roughly as “sixteen sounds of yanyun.”

(Also, the Chinese server is doing a collab with Escape from Tarkov 👀I wonder what that looks like. I’ve never actually tried the Chinese version of WWM, mostly because my SSD is only 128 GB and it can barely handle the global version already 💀😂So yeah… my SSD said one WWM is enough, bro. 😭)

the developers explain that “十六声” (sixteen sounds) comes from an ancient chinese musical system associated with wang pu.

it combines twelve traditional tones with four additional folk tones, making sixteen sounds in total.

the developers use these sixteen sounds as a metaphor for china’s diverse and inclusive history, culture and people.

🏯 why “yanyun”?

燕云 (yanyun) also connects the name to the historical sixteen prefectures of yanyun, an important part of the historical background surrounding the era.

so the chinese title isn't just a random translation of where winds meet.

it carries a lot more historical and cultural meaning behind it.

🌀 and the logo?

the emblem itself is a stylized abstract mark, rather than simply being the letters “ht” like i first thought.

the official trademark shows the same stylized symbol together with 燕云十六声 and where winds meet.

i couldn't find an official source saying that every individual stroke of the emblem has a literal translation.

but when you look at the meaning behind the name, the design feels pretty fitting:

different lines → different paths → coming together → where the winds meet.

all of this started because i was sitting there making a game logo out of french fries 😂🍟
