My package has finally arrived 👀🐟
I don't even know which one to try first, what would be your pick? 🤔
I also wanted to buy some more albacore and bluefin tuna in Jersey butter, but it was sold out so yeah maybe for Christmas

I'm not a native English speaker, but I'm not a complete beginner either and I'm generally confident in my grammar. Can someone explain why my answer was not accepted?
Today I had a tin with some pasta and a sauce made out of mashed peas, crushed garlic and shredded parmesan cheese
As you have probably guessed, it was delicious 😋
Feel free to share some of your recent tinned fish meals in the comments :)
And mods please don't smite me for posting modern politics here, Hitler is mentioned in the title so this is technically a Red Autumn reference 🤓☝️
I love tinned mackerel, so I decided to get a little spendy. International shipping is pretty expensive anyway, so I might as well stock up for the future :)

The order was more or less evenly split between sardines and mackerels. The mackerel ones are for me while the sardines are primarily for my dad since he really likes sardines.

I was never into sardines and while the Nuri spiced ones were better than any other brand I have tried, they aren't really something I would crave to eat on a regular day.

The main thing I didn't like about the sardines were the scales. They have a weird texture and taste. I tried scraping them off, but that made an even bigger mess.

But other than that, they were alright. The oil was very pleasant, I made sure to soak up a slice of bread in it to make sure it doesn't go to waste. The fish was pretty good too once I started to ignore the scales. The bones were barely noticeable and the spine was not too bad.

So yeah, I made a purchase for like 300€ but I don't feel bad about it, since my dad will also get to enjoy it with me :)
I keep bromeliads in a vivarium together with my pet dart frogs. You can see one of them on the last picture :)
This discussion also doubles as a tin review :)
Shown above is what I had for breakfast today. A nice tin of smoked Atlantic salmon with some mini baguettes to soak up the excess oil to make sure it doesn't go to waste.
In typical Fangst fashion, the packaging shows a beautiful fish drawing, and the actual tin is quite photogenic too.
The first thing that hit my nose upon opening was the strong smoky smell. There was no fishiness and a hint of salmon flavour.
In terms of texture, the fish is quite soft and flaky. With my fork it was easy to separate the pieces into smaller ones.
In terms of flavour, this salmon was one of the best ones I have ever had. There was little need to chew it, the fish would just fall apart in my mouth. The smokiness was definitely noticeable in flavour as well. I'm not a type of person to really love smoked products, and I can see how the smokiness could feel a little disruptive to the more sensitive people, making it harder to taste the salmon. Nevertheless, this was an easy tin to eat with the mini baguettes. I only wish I had some cream cheese on hand, maybe that would make the smokiness a little less intense.
Instead, I ate some pieces of feta cheese and homegrown strawberries as a side dish. It might sound like an odd combination, but it was actually pretty good considering the dire state my fridge was in.
The cold pressed rapeseed oil was quite nice as well. The smokiness combined with the smoothness of the oil and a small hint of salmon fat made the cheap supermarket baguettes feel gourmet.
Overall, I'm giving this tin a score of 9/10. I consider this tin to be really good as a snack for hikes, for parties, for lazy lunches, and anything else you might think of. Considering the quality, it's not even particularly expensive. I believe I got it for around 8 euros from the Tinned Fish Market, but since I live in the EU, I could also order it from Fangst directly and for a little bit cheaper. If you love salmon, or smoked products, or quick healthy meals (or preferably all of the above) this is a great tin for you!
So today is my day off and I decided to make it more interesting by opening a fancy tin.
Visually, the tin looks great, and so does the fish inside. Upon opening, I was greeted with a nice, warm and buttery aroma (which makes sense) and very mild tuna smell. No fishiness though.
In terms of texture, the individual cuts (or flakes or whatever they are), hold their shape very well, however they are very soft and offer little resistance once they get under your fork or into your mouth, which I think is a good thing.
I heated up the tin in boiling water before opening it to make sure the butter was at least partially melted. In terms of taste this was the best tinned tuna I have ever tried. It was smooth, buttery, not chewy at all without being mushy. It was the perfect middle ground in my opinion. The butter, however, was maybe a bit overpowering and I honestly struggled to finish the entire tin. It felt very rich and fatty and by the end I was a little exhausted from it all. This isn't a partially large tin and I didn't even have a proper lunch before trying this. Maybe it would have been easier if I had a second person to share this tin, but eating it alone wasn't a particularly pleasant experience. It strangely reminds me of that time I tried Fangst monkfish liver, which I also think was maybe a bit too soft and buttery and rich for its own good
This doesn't even factor in the price, which for me was 28€. For that price I could get 4 to 5 Nuri tins, which I would prefer over this to be honest.
Overall I'm giving this tin a score of 8,5/10. I liked it, but it wasn't a mind-blowing experience many people make it out to be. Maybe it's great as a snack for parties, where multiple people can enjoy a bit of it on a nice, crunchy baguette or a cracker, but I can't imagine opening this for breakfast or lunch, eating it, and then just getting back to work. If I did that, I would be tired for the rest of the day. Actually, I will probably go to bed after posting this.
Okay that's everything for now bye 👋
So today I opened my first Fangst grilled salmon tin. I ate it together with a store bought olive bread stick.
Visually, it looks very nice, both the packaging and the inside. The first thing that hit me was the nice salmon smell as well as some very subtle smell of char/coal.
In terms of texture, the fish was surprisingly firm and resisted my fork a bit when I tried to squish a piece of it. But other than that, it was easy eating. No bones, no skin, flaky, in one big piece.
The rapeseed oil was pleasant with the bread and added some buttery flavor to a fish that was otherwise maybe on the dry side.
In terms of taste, the fish was much better than any tinned salmon from a grocery store. My only real complaint is that the fish was seasoned a bit too mildly (0,9% salt and that's it)
But I understand that some people don't mind it this way. You can either add your own seasoning or maybe leave it the way it is, it's just a matter of preference
This was a very nice experience and if you like tinned salmon products, I recommend you try it out. I'm giving this tin an overall score of 8,5/10
So today I tried my first Nuri spiced mackerel in olive oil... and wow
I was already hyped due to how much people on YouTube praised it, but this tin not only didn't dissapoint, but it also surpassed my expectations. It really is that good!
It has a very mild fishy smell, but it's nowhere near as intense as of the tins you get in the Supermarket.
The texture was really nice. Flaky, soft and buttery. The spice in the olive oil was noticable, but not overpowering, just the way I like it. Together with the mackerel fillets, I also found some pieces of bay leaves, a small chilli, some pieces of carrot, and a single slice of pickle inside of the tin. I ate the fish with some regular bread, but I can imagine this tin would be great for salads or perhaps for pasta as well. The tin was overall very enjoyable, and if I already didn't have chicken for lunch today, I would have opened a second tin.
In my country, the tin costs little under 6€, which is around twice to thrice as much as regular supermarket mackerel tins, but in terms of taste, it's in a whole another league. Also, 6€ isn't especially expensive, and I can imagine eating this on the semi-regular basis. If you are new to tinned fish, I definitely recommend you try this out.
Overall I'm giving this tin a rating of 9/10, IMO it hits the perfect ratio between quality and price, and I already know I will buy more in the future
The delivery time was quite long since the package was stuck at customs, but after around two weeks it's finally with me :)
I already tried the Alalunga albacore tuna loin with tomato sauce. It's quite good in terms of taste. It didn't have any metallic or fishy flavor and the sauce was very pleasant without being overpowering. The main thing I didn't really like about it was the texture. It was a bit too tough and chewy for me, but that's just a matter of preference. Overall I'd rate it 8 out of 10. It's tasty, but considering the price, it's not something I would buy myself on the regular.
I'm very excited to try the rest of the tins in the near future and if I find them interesting enough, I might post an update on them.
Have you bought any interesting tins recently? And did you like them? Let me know :)
And yeah I know that Röhm wasn't really known for being a heavy drug user, but please ignore it for the sake of the joke. Also he liked alcohol, and that somewhat counts anyway
I may or may not be one of them
For those who don't get it, this is a reference to the Dynamic mod. In there, right before the 1932 presidential election, you can decide to reveal secret letters of Ernst Röhm that would prove his homosexuality and damage the reputation of the SA and NSDAP. But there's more.
Provided you have reformed the judiciary enough, you can actually abuse Paragraph 175 and imprison Röhm for being gay. This severely damages the reputation of the SA and the NSDAP. So yeah, that's the joke.
Later you can also legalise homosexuality and get a special in-game achievement.
