Should SOUNDPEATS have a sound of its own?

Tuning has traditionally been a product-by-product decision for us: what works best for this driver, this form factor?

That still matters. But as we make more products, we don’t want every new model to feel like we’re starting from zero.

We don’t want every SOUNDPEATS product to sound the same. But we do want them to feel like they came from the same place.

For us, it starts with the human voice.

Not because vocals are objectively more important. People listen for very different things. But the human voice is one of the sounds we know most instinctively. We notice very quickly when it feels thin, distant, harsh, or when it suddenly feels close, full and alive.

And for a lot of music, the voice is where much of the emotion lives. A small change in its weight or distance can change the way an entire song feels.

So going forward, our tuning will emphasize warm, full-bodied vocals with a closer, more intimate presentation, while preserving bass weight and treble clarity.

Different products should still have different personalities. But we do want a clear direction we can keep refining from one product to the next, instead of reinventing our idea of “good sound” every time.

Do you like the idea of a recognizable house sound? And when it comes to vocals, what do you listen for most?

【Community Roundtable】 When does your favorite pair stop being your favorite pair?

Think about the earbuds you reach for most. Are there moments when you find yourself adapting to them, rather than them fitting the moment?

Sometimes the most useful product ideas come from the little things users have learned to live with. That’s also part of what led us to think differently about UU2.

So, what does that moment look like for YOU?

Your everyday experience might show us something we haven’t considered before, and help shape how we think about what comes next.

As a little thank-you for joining the conversation, our UU2 community code “UU2CMNTY” is still valid through August 31, giving you up to 30% off and can be used more than once.

And if something you share sparks a new idea or helps shape how we think about what to build next, we’d love to send you our official brand collectible, the SOUNDPEATS Peats Guitarist Bluetooth Speaker, as a gift.

So, what have you noticed from using your earbuds everyday?

【Aura Nebula】Why We Chose QCC3091

At the center of a TWS earbud is its SoC, the main chip that handles things like Bluetooth connectivity, audio processing, codec support, ANC processing, and other core functions. For Aura Nebula, we chose Qualcomm’s QCC3091.

QCC3091 supports audio codecs including aptX Lossless and aptX Adaptive, but codec support is only part of the reason we chose this platform.

QCC3091 also plays a major role in how ANC works. It uses a dual-core Kalimba DSP running at up to 240MHz, providing the processing power needed to process signals picked up by the microphones and calculate the cancellation signal in real time.

It also supports Adaptive ANC, which can adjust the noise cancellation according to changes in fit and sealing. Even a small change in how an earbud sits in your ear can affect how much outside noise reaches you.

But there is another reason we chose this platform again: experience.

QCC3091 is not new to us. We have already used it in products including Air5 Pro / Pro+ and H3. That means the work on Aura Nebula did not start from zero. Over several products, our engineers have accumulated experience tuning sound and ANC on this platform. Aura Nebula can build on that instead of treating the SoC as just another component selected from a spec sheet.

UU2 is officially here but what changed this time?

Clip-on earbuds are always a bit of an acoustic balancing act. Because they don’t seal the ear canal, bass is harder to maintain, sound is more sensitive to positioning, and simply making the driver louder isn’t necessarily the answer.

With UU2, we focused quite a bit on that part of the experience.

It uses a 12mm dual-magnet dynamic driver together with DynamicEQ, with the goal of giving the low end more body without losing the open-ear character. It also supports LDAC / Hi-Res Wireless, while keeping the lightweight clip-on design and physical buttons that some users specifically asked us to retain.

Battery life is up to 42 hours in total, and UU2 is also designed to improve on some of the usual clip-on pain points such as bass performance and sound leakage.

Now that it’s officially available, I’m especially curious to hear how people who already use clip-ons think it compares in terms of bass, fit, and everyday usability.

For anyone in the community who was already considering one: Community-Exclusive Code for UU2: UU2CMNTY

Valid for UU2 purchases only through August 31.

What makes the bass different on UU2? A closer look at the driver design

Open-ear earbuds usually have one big challenge: creating satisfying bass without sealing the ear canal.

Since there is less physical isolation compared with in-ear earbuds, low-frequency energy is easier to lose. That means the driver needs to move more air and maintain control at the same time.

For UU2, we focused on improving the driver system itself:

12mm dual-magnet driver

A larger driver diaphragm can move more air, which helps improve low-frequency response and overall sound pressure.

The dual-magnet structure provides a stronger and more stable magnetic field, helping the driver move more precisely, especially during bass-heavy passages.

Titanium-coated diaphragm

The diaphragm needs to balance flexibility and rigidity.

The titanium coating increases stiffness, helping the diaphragm respond faster and reducing unwanted distortion when handling more demanding tracks.

Higher power handling

Compared with the previous generation, UU2’s driver supports higher input power.

This gives the driver more headroom, which helps maintain bass impact and sound stability when the volume is increased.

Of course, hardware is only part of the story. With open-ear designs, the final result also depends heavily on fit, placement, and tuning.

For those who have tried clip-on or open-ear earbuds before: what matters most to you when judging bass on this type of product — impact, depth, texture, or something else?

【Aura Nebula】ANC Test Result

The ANC test result for Aura Nebula is around 43dB. For comparison, H3 can reach about 55dB.

The main reason is that Aura Nebula uses a much more complex multi-driver acoustic structure, which makes ANC tuning more difficult.

If ANC is pushed too aggressively, especially in the low-frequency range, it can start to affect bass response, tonal balance, and overall sound quality.

Since Aura Nebula is mainly focused on sound quality, the product team decided not to chase the deepest possible ANC number at the cost of audio performance. According to the R&D team, they tested and adjusted many versions before reaching this result. 43dB is basically the level they could reach without noticeably hurting the sound quality.

This does not mean ANC was ignored. Aura Nebula has 3 microphones per earbud, with AI call noise reduction and Qualcomm cVc 8.0 for call noise reduction. The app will also support different ANC modes, including indoor noise reduction, outdoor noise reduction, traffic noise reduction, adaptive ANC, and wind noise reduction.

I’m curious how everyone feels about this. Would you feel disappointed that Aura Nebula’s ANC is not as good as H3’s?

Why we’re calling POP Clip2 "UU2"

The name UU comes from the U-shaped open-ear design at the heart of the product.

When we developed the original POP Clip, our team often referred to it internally as UU Clip—a simpler name inspired by its distinctive form. As we moved on to the second generation, UU2 naturally became the name used throughout its development and early discussions.

You may still see "POP Clip2" on packaging and in the Bluetooth device name. That name comes from an earlier stage of the product. Future production batches will gradually adopt UU2 on the packaging as well.

So, whether you see "POP Clip2" or "UU2", they refer to the same clip-on earbuds. UU2 is the name we’ll be using moving forward.

For those of you who like open-ear designs, what stands out to you most about UU2 so far?

Clip-on earbuds: what matters most, and what’s still missing?

H3 gets discussed a lot here, but our clip-on models come up much less often. I’m curious how many of you have actually tried clip-on open-ear earbuds, whether from SOUNDPEATS or another brand.

Clip-on designs come with some real trade-offs. Bass and sound leakage can be difficult to control, and the listening experience can vary quite a bit depending on ear shape and positioning.

These are also areas we’ve continued to work on across our clip-on lineup. Our upcoming UU2, also known as Pop Clip2, builds on the original Pop Clip with LDAC support and targeted improvements aimed at fuller bass and reduced sound leakage.

If you’ve used a SOUNDPEATS clip-on, what did you like most about it? If you considered one but ultimately chose another brand, what was the dealbreaker?

For anyone curious about UU2: you can now find the full product introduction, specifications, and FAQ on the SOUNDPEATS official website. Email subscribers can also receive a 35% early-bird discount before the August 10 launch.

【Aura Nebula】What Kind of Sound Are We Tuning For?

For Aura Nebula, the tuning direction is not extreme bass, extreme brightness, or a classic heavy V-shaped sound. The goal is a more balanced, transparent, and full-range Hi-Fi style: solid bass, warm vocals, fine treble, and a clean sense of space. This comes from how the drivers are used.

The 10mm dynamic driver gives the sound its foundation. It is there for low-end depth, body, and physical impact, but the bass is not meant to flood the whole mix. The idea is weight with control: drums and basslines should feel solid, while vocals and instruments still stay clear.

The middle of the sound is where Aura Nebula needs to feel natural and musical. Vocals should have enough thickness and emotion, not sound thin or pushed far back. Instruments like piano, guitar, and strings should keep their texture, so busy tracks do not collapse into one flat layer.

The upper range is handled with detail and smoothness in mind. We want treble to bring clarity, overtones, and air, but not rely on sharpness to sound "hi-res." The micro-planar driver is part of that direction: extending the very top end while keeping the presentation more refined than aggressive.

So the overall target is not a basshead tuning, and not a dark, soft tuning either. It is closer to an all-rounder Hi-Fi signature: enough low-end to give music scale, enough vocal presence to keep it emotional, and enough high-frequency extension to make details and ambience come through without making the sound tiring.

【Aura Nebula】How to Drive and Control Five Drivers Inside a TWS?

Putting five drivers inside a TWS earbud is not just a space problem.

It is also a power problem.

A TWS earbud does not have the same power budget as a wired IEM or a full-size headphone. The amplifier, battery, PCB, Bluetooth chipset, microphones, ANC system, and acoustic structure all have to fit inside a very small shell.

So the answer cannot simply be: “use more power.”

More power means more heat, more battery drain, and usually more space. That is not a good solution for something people are supposed to wear every day.

For Aura Nebula, the goal was to drive five different units efficiently, not aggressively.

The first challenge is electrical matching.

The 10mm dynamic driver, BA drivers, planar magnetic driver, and micro-planar driver do not have the same impedance, sensitivity, or driving behavior. If they are not controlled properly, some drivers can be pushed too hard while others are not driven enough.

That can affect dynamics, tonal balance, and overall coherence.

This is why Aura Nebula needs a custom driving environment. Each driver type must work within the same system without compromising its own strengths or disrupting the rest of the tuning.

The second part is efficiency.

Instead of relying on brute force, Aura Nebula utilizes compact, high-efficiency driver designs and magnetic systems to minimize power demand while maintaining controlled sound.

The BA units also help here: they are small, lightweight, highly sensitive, and easier to drive, which makes them a good fit for a power-limited TWS platform.

The last part is real-world endurance.

High-res codecs, ANC, and a 5-driver acoustic system all place extra demand on the product, so the charging case also had to support longer daily use instead of treating sound quality and battery life as separate problems.

So the idea is not “five drivers need a huge amplifier.”

The idea is smarter power use: electrical matching, efficient driver design, careful system control, and enough battery support to make the whole setup practical as a real TWS earbud.

【Aura Nebula】Why Two BA Drivers Instead of One?

In Aura Nebula, the two balanced armature drivers are NOT used like two separate “mini speakers”, each taking a different slice of the treble.

They work more like a matched pair.
Both BA units are the same type, with the same acoustic behavior, and they cover the same high-frequency region together. In the final driver layout, this dual BA section is responsible for frequencies ranging from approximately 8kHz to 15kHz.

So why use TWO if one BA can already produce high-frequency detail?
Because output and control matter.
A single BA can sound clean and detailed, but in a TWS earbud, space and power are limited. If one small BA has to carry that whole high-frequency load by itself, it has less headroom. Push it harder, and you are more likely to run into thinness, compression, roughness, or distortion.

Using two matched BA drivers lets them share the workload.
Instead of one BA doing everything near its limit, two BA units work together at the same time. The result is higher output, better dynamic headroom, and more stable control in the frequency range where detail, definition, and clarity are most noticeable.

This is not a “one BA for this band, one BA for that band” design. It is closer to two identical drivers pushing together.
A simple analogy: one person can push a cart, but two people pushing in the same direction can move it with more stability and less strain. In audio terms, that means the high-frequency section can sound more solid, more effortless, and less forced.

【Aura Nebula】How We Handle Crossover in a 5-Driver TWS

In the past post, we discussed the real challenge of a 5-driver TWS earbud: making the different drivers sound like one coherent system. For Aura Nebula, the answer starts with a 3-way crossover architecture.

A crossover determines how the frequency range is divided between different drivers, specifying which part each driver handles, where it begins to step back, and where the next section takes over.

Aura Nebula divides the system into three main sections:

Low-pass This section is mainly for the low-end foundation. The dynamic driver can focus on bass weight, texture, and control without being forced to carry the upper ranges at the same time.

Band-pass This section covers the middle of the sound, where vocals, instruments, density, and most musical information live. It is also the bridge between the bass foundation and the upper range, so the transition here is especially important.

High-pass This section handles upper treble and ultra-high-frequency detail: extension, air, and spatial information. The key is to keep those details connected to the rest of the tuning, instead of making them sound like extra treble added on top.

But crossover is not only about splitting frequencies.

The physical layout matters too. The drivers sit in different positions inside the shell, and sound travels through different acoustic paths before reaching your ear. That is why sound guides, acoustic chamber geometry, and phase behavior are part of the tuning process.

The electrical side also matters. Dynamic, BA, planar magnetic, and micro-planar drivers have different impedance and sensitivity, so the system has to avoid one driver being pushed too hard while another is not driven enough.

This is where Aura Nebula’s Dual-Link Tuning comes in: hardware crossover handles the frequency division, while DSP tuning helps refine the final response and integration.

【Aura Nebula】What Does Each Driver Actually Do?

Aura Nebula uses:

  • 1 × 10mm dynamic driver
  • 2 × balanced armature drivers
  • 1 × 6mm planar magnetic driver
  • 1 × micro-planar driver The 10mm dynamic driver is the foundation. It is mainly responsible for the low-end body, weight, and atmosphere. This is the part that gives bass instruments, drums, and the overall soundstage a sense of scale, rather than making the earbud sound thin.
The two balanced armature drivers sit closer to the center of the sound. Their job is to support vocal density, instrument definition, and clarity in the mid-to-high frequency range. This is where a lot of the “shape” of music resides: vocals, strings, piano, guitar texture, and subtle details that make instruments easier to distinguish.
The 6mm planar magnetic driver is used where speed, texture, and clean extension become more important. This area affects things like vocal edges, overtones, cymbal texture, and spatial cues. The goal is not just more treble, but treble detail that feels controlled and connected to the rest of the tuning.
The micro-planar driver extends to the very top end. This is where air, ambience, and openness come from. It helps the sound feel less closed-in and gives the stage more space to breathe.
So the 5-driver system is not five drivers showing off separately. It is more like a division of labor:
  • Dynamic driver for foundation.
  • Dual BA drivers for density and definition.
  • Planar magnetic driver for speed and texture.
  • Micro-planar driver for air and extension.
That is the basic idea behind Aura Nebula’s driver layout. Each driver type has its own strengths, and the goal is to place those strengths where they make the most sense in the music.

【Aura Nebula】More Drivers, More Problems?

Let’s be clear: more drivers do not automatically mean better sound.

If the crossover is not handled properly or if the drivers are not well-aligned, a multi-driver earbud can sound disconnected. Bass, vocals, treble, and details may feel like they are coming from different places instead of one coherent source.

So the real question is: can each driver do the job it is best at, while still working together as one system?

That is one of the main challenges behind Aura Nebula.

The dynamic driver, balanced armature drivers, planar magnetic driver, and micro-planar driver all have different strengths, but they also behave differently. They have different response characteristics, different physical positions inside the shell, and different roles in the sound.

That means crossover design, phase behavior, acoustic chamber design, electrical matching, and DSP tuning all matter.

In a small TWS shell, the hard part is not just fitting five drivers inside. The hard part is making them sound like one earbud, not five separate drivers.
