Need advice positioning sponsorship for a large tank replica build

I’m an aerospace engineering student, and I’m working on a real-life Panzer VIII Maus replica at around 60-65% scale. The final scale may change slightly depending on drivetrain packaging and the final dimensions of the main components.

I should also mention that I’m not very experienced with marketing or sponsorship strategy, so please excuse any ignorance or wrong assumptions in how I’m framing this. That is mainly why I’m asking here before pushing the project further.

The basic idea is the following: a large Maus replica with a functional track system powered by a V8 engine. I acquired a Ford Crown Victoria donor vehicle, and the next step is to disassemble the needed drivetrain components, measure them, model them in CAD, integrate them into the full CAD assembly, finalize the design around the real components, then move into the construction phase.

I also plan to document the whole build journey through long-form YouTube episodes, shorter clips for Instagram/TikTok. The content will include design work, donor vehicle disassembly, CAD integration, fabrication, testing, problems, results, lessons learned, and more.

I’m now trying to decide how to position the project from a sponsorship/marketing point of view before I contact more companies.

One route is game studios that feature the Maus, like World of Tanks, War Thunder, or other tank games. That makes sense because the Maus is already recognizable to their players, and the build could become content around a real-life version of something from the game. I have already contacted some game companies and sent proposals, but I’m still not sure if this is actually the best route.

The route I personally prefer is defense or land-systems companies. I would present the project as an engineering demonstrator, not as a military product. The value would be that the company gets connected to a displayable engineering build that can attract engineering/STEM students, fabrication people, and technical talent toward the sponsoring company. It could also be displayed in engineering, defense, university, or public events.

I’m not looking for a company to fully fund the build. The project is already planned independently, but I’m trying to understand what a realistic sponsorship/collaboration structure should look like.

From a sponsorship/marketing point of view, what should I actually aim for?

Should I focus on a sponsorship fee, event/display cost coverage, parts/material support, content partnership, brand placement, affiliate/referral arrangement, technical review/guidance, or something else?

Which sponsor category would realistically get the most value from a project like this: game companies, defense/land-systems companies, build-related companies, or event/exhibition partners?

Also, would it be smarter to keep approaching sponsors now while the project is still in CAD/design, or wait until construction has started and there is something more physical/presentable to show?

I’m mainly trying to understand how to position the project properly, what benefits I should offer, which sponsor category makes the most sense, and what kind of sponsorship structure would sound realistic.

My experience passing the CSWP full exam with a 318/318 score

Just passed the CSWP full exam with 318/318 in 182 minutes, and I wanted to share a few thoughts because preparing for it was honestly more mentally annoying than the actual exam.

I took the full exam because my student voucher launched the all-in-one CSWP instead of letting me take the segments separately. I was not excited about sitting through 3+ hours of uninterrupted SolidWorks, but honestly once you’re in the zone it goes by faster than you think. Moreover, this might not be true but in the full exam, if you do poorly in a segment, your performance on other segments might compensate for it and then end up with a passing score that you otherwise wouldn't have gotten doing the segmented exam.

The real exam was fair. Not necessarily easy, but fair.

The prep journey, though, can mess with your head if you let it. Some sample exams are very clean. Some are old, and some are both. Some have weird assumptions. Some make you stop and question whether the issue is your model, the drawing, the intended design method, or SolidWorks having a stroke (9.99 times out of 10, it isn't). Either way, I still think every practice exam helps somehow. Even the ones that gave me headaches taught me something about checking design intent, debugging mass errors, reading drawings carefully, and not panicking when my answer was off.

That said, don’t let any practice exam destroy your confidence. This is probably the biggest lesson I learned. If a sample question feels like BS, don’t instantly assume you forgot how to model. Slow down, check your work, learn whatever the question is trying to teach you, and move on. You can benefit from a messy practice exam without letting it convince you that you’re bad at SolidWorks.

For example, I used the older BW Engineering material and it definitely gave me headaches. I can’t say anything about the newer version though because I did not use it, but the older one had moments where I was genuinely fighting the sample more than I was practicing the exam. Still, even that helped me in some way. It forced me to inspect every dimension, think harder about update behavior, and be more careful with assumptions.

For Segment 1, what helped me most was simple. look at all the provided views and visually inspect the part until it looks dead on, then go through every single dimension on the drawing and make sure you actually used each one. If a dimension is shown and you did not account for it, don’t just ignore that. Also, sometimes you will run into stubborn hidden relations that are very subtle. Relax and find them. I personally found those annoying little traps more common in sample exams than in the actual CSWP, but they’re still good training. And usually, when the model is correct, your answer should usually match one of the MCQ options almost exactly. Not “close enough if I round emotionally.” Basically exact or 0.01 off.

For Segment 2 and Segment 3, I’d say configurations are actually super easy once they click, but the modification/update part in Segment 2 can get tricky if you’re not paying attention. For Segment 3, rebuild constantly and make sure everything is fully defined before trusting your mass properties.

My main takeaway is that the CSWP is very doable if you actually understand SolidWorks, and especially if you have a lot of experience. It is not about copying one sacred feature tree. It is about ending up with the correct geometry, correct design intent, correct configurations, and correct assembly state regardless of the features you use. Also, we can never appreciate the Delete Face command enough. The number of times it carried me through practice problems and CSWP questions is countless.

So if you’re preparing and a sample exam makes you feel stupid, don’t spiral. Learn from it, take what is useful, and don't be afraid to rage quit and find another sample exam. Some practice material will feel annoying, but even the annoying stuff can sharpen you if you don’t let it wreck your confidence.

The real exam was fair, but the PTSD from the practice exams I did made me feel like I was going to fail or barely pass. Clearly, this wasn't the case, and I never realized this until I decided to wing the 'end exam' button literally without reviewing my work, and seeing that full mark screen. It was a great but weird experience.

Hey everyone. Three brothers here getting into DIY fragrance for the first time.

This is my first order. I know it is a lot for a beginner, but each of us had some materials we personally wanted to explore, so the list got big pretty fast. I also know there are probably some mistakes in the stack. For example, C11 and C12 aldehyde may be kind of redundant, and I’m sure there are other things I’m not aware of yet.
