Opinion on bonded kittens?

I’ve got two 10 week old girls who I think are bonded, but I’ve heard a lot of conflicting opinions on whether kittens can be truly bonded, so I came here to ask what the community thinks on the issue!

My girls were originally in a litter of 5 but the litter was split up for reasons unknown to me. Their original foster kept 3 and I responded to a blast requesting a foster for my little ladies. They had ringworm and were quarantined together for about 4-5 weeks. Now they sleep together, eat together, play together, and groom each other. I’m an experienced kitten foster and know this is all very normal for siblings. HOWEVER, what’s having me believe that they’re actually bonded is that they FREAK OUT when they realize they’ve lost sight of each other. They start running around meowing for their sister and won’t stop until they find each other. I’ve got other kittens at home, which they will play with, but they almost always prefer to play with each other and leave the other kittens once they realize their sister is open to playing.

In my experience, kittens don’t truly bond in the way that adults do. They’re generally not going to be heartbroken about going to different homes and adjust quickly once adopted. That being the case, I’d usually have no problem splitting kittens up and I’ve done so with every other litter I’ve had, but these girls seem different… kittens will normally be okay being separated from their siblings after a few hours or days apart, but these girls just won’t allow themselves to be separated even for a few hours!

Do you think they’re truly bonded?

Why does their fur look like this?

These two boys are about 5 weeks old and have been in quarantine due to ringworm. Their fur started looking kind of greasy after their last lime dip on Sunday, but I figured it was just residue from the dip or something . However, I gave them a regular bath yesterday with unscented baby shampoo and they still look like this?? They had covered themselves in food, but it wasn’t so bad that their fur should look this way. Some of it is stuck on in weird ways and the rest just sticks straight up and has this odd feel to it…

Anyone know what’s causing this? Could it be just because they’re not grooming? If that was the case, wouldn’t the bath have resolved the issue??

Thanks for any advice!

Kitten keeps overeating and throwing up… what can I do?

This 6 week old singleton kitten is currently housed with two 7 week olds and basically eats until she pops 😩 she is clearly full but continues eating until she actually throws up. I can’t limit her food intake easily because she’s with two other kittens that eat intermittently and require free feeding to keep up their weight.

Chunky kitten is in there with them because she has INTENSE single kitten syndrome, so I’m at a loss for how to limit her food intake without separating them.

Any advice appreciated!

EDIT: important note that I forgot, this only started after she finally weaned a few days ago. The first day she started eating on her own she vomited wet food everywhere. I was able to limit her intake when she was bottle feeding, but now she is seemingly eating a whole can by herself while the others are playing

Is bruising of the inner thigh in need of urgent medical attention?

I apologize if this isn’t allowed…

My dog yelped in the middle of the night last night and woke up with small, dark bruising around his inner thigh/penis. Could it be that he pulled something in his groin area? Or is it something urgent?

I rescued him last year. He’s about 6 (unsure as he is from a shelter) and is not on any medications currently. Last year around this date, he was rushed to an emergency hospital for a venomous spider bite on his hind leg, so I’m especially anxious about surprise issues like this.

Any guesses as to what it is or help is appreciated!

How to help a congested kitten?

I just picked up a foster with a really persistent URI. The poor thing is 5 weeks old and she’s been battling the URI for 2 weeks. She’s now on clavamox but is still struggling with a runny and stuffy nose. She hasn’t been able to wean because she can’t smell her food and doesn’t recognize it as something edible, so I’ve been bottle feeding slurry every 6-7 hrs.

How can I help her with the congestion? She is really trying to sniff things and I feel terrible hearing her sniffle. She’s got ringworm and is in quarantine so I can’t keep her in the bathroom while the shower is on like I’ve done in the past. The warmth and steam usually loosen the congestion quite well

How to exercise a ringworm kitten in quarantine?

Just picked this baby up today and she is PSYCHOTIC. lol she literally will not stop moving once she sets her sights on you. She is shockingly high energy even for a 4 week old kitten. She won’t even sit still while actively eating (hence the mess in the picture).

I’d love to let her run around BUT she has ringworm and I’m currently forced to quarantine her in a small playpen so that she doesn’t re-infect another ringworm litter that is almost over it.

How can I exercise her without violating quarantine? I was thinking of taking her into my backyard to let her run around on the side walk, with supervision obviously, but I’m concerned about her still being unvaccinated.

Any ideas here?

Thanks!

Traps suddenly started wilting??

I followed all the care instructions. It’s outside in partial sun (live in south Florida so full sun burns it), and I sit it in a bin full of distilled water. The stuff in the bin is a mosquito dunk that’s disintegrated. My Typical is right next to this one and the same box and is thriving. What am I doing wrong?

I got them both at the same time from a small nursery about 3 weeks ago. It went from fully green to basically dead in just a few days.

I babysat a friend’s fosters for a weekend and now I have ringworm 😭

I babysat for a friend who is a vet tech at our shelter. ONE of the kittens had a spot on his face but my friend said they had skin scraped it and it was not ringworm. I wasn’t exactly careful about quarantine because we thought it wasn’t ringworm and now I got it 🥲 now I’m thinking my dog and my two cats are for sure going to get it and spiraling a little bit.

I’ve never had ringworm and actually just picked up my first ringworm kittens this week…. I’d been so careful about quarantining them and using PPE 😭 any advice for myself, my pets, and my fosters is most welcome

Best places to buy VFT online or in store?

I recently purchased my first VFTs from a local small nursery who specializes in carnivorous plants and I immediately want a million more! Unfortunately, that vendor mostly specializes in nepenthes and has very few VFT available for sale at the moment.

Where do you buy your traps? I’m hoping to buy larger, more mature traps but am only seeing very small ones at nearby nurseries.

Does anyone have any favorite online vendors? I’ve also seen some mention of people buying them from target of all places! I’ve personally never seen them in target

Cat Sitting-Would you leave a cat alone for 23.5 hrs in a day?

I’m “cat sitting” (although I’d call it more feeding than actual sitting) for a family that went on vacation for two weeks. They’re not doing anything wrong, but something about the setup they left isn’t sitting right with me and I was wondering what the community thought of this.

So, the family is gone for two weeks and they asked me to come by their house at night to dispense a can of wet food and their 10 year old cat’s medication. They have an automatic feeder that goes off in the morning, an automatic litter box, and cameras to watch the cat. All of this is technically fine and the cat’s physical needs are met, but I can’t help but feel bad that the poor cat is by himself all day with no one to hang out with.

I swing by at night and hang out with him for like 30 mins after I feed him, but we’re not friendly… he is a very affectionate cat, but we just met a few days ago and he’s still shy around me. I just feel bad that he’s got nothing to do all day and no one to cuddle with…. Just an empty house. He doesn’t even have another friend! I just can’t imagine leaving my two cats like that.

Is there anything I can do for this guy? What are your thoughts on this situation?

Surgery suit for 2 month old kittens?

Does anyone have recommendations for extra small surgery suits? My girls are 11 weeks old and just got spayed today. I used the size small surgery suits for cats I got on Amazon but it’s always just a smidge too big and I have to tie them up with binder clips so the kittens don’t pee on the fabric. I’m looking for a tighter fit so that they don’t get excrement on the suit and expose their incisions to bacteria.

Not the best photo but I don’t want to wake them for a better one lol

OE or just an injury?

Went out to the backyard and my dog found this poor baby on the ground. It was flapping around and not achieving lift, so I placed it on a flower to live out its remaining time.

It’s got a bent wing and is missing a leg.

I live in South Florida and we don’t get a freeze. My only milkweed plant currently is a giant milkweed that we don’t cut back. I’d posted on Reddit before asking if I needed to cut it back to prevent OE and was told no.

What causes this?

There are a ton of what seem like dried out cats on my giant milkweed… I’m hoping these are just sheds but I’m not optimistic…

I use no pesticides or chemicals on my plants. The white on the leaves is a milky substance the plant itself produces

First time fostering semi-feral mom and kittens. What do I need?

Hi all! I’ve fostered plenty of bottle babies, but I’ll be picking up my first mom on Monday along with her 4 kittens. I have all the usual bottle baby supplies, but I’d appreciate it if anyone could recommend supplies to help mom out.

Mom is semi-feral and does not like being touched or handled, so I am thinking of housing them in an XL dog crate, similar to what Heidi from Heidi Wrangles Cats does. Normally, I’d just house my litters freely in our spare room, but I’m concerned about mom getting out or moving the babies to somewhere I can’t reach, so I’m lugging out the crate as a precaution. I’ll be working on making her friendlier and possibly adoptable. If we can’t make her friendly, she’ll have to be TNR’d and returned to the street.

I’ll be adding a hammock so mom can get away from her babies, a box to keep the kittens in (2 weeks old), and a litter box for mom. Is there anything else I’ll need?

Thanks for the help!

I love when my wine glass floats into the atmosphere (What Death Taught Me)

I foster neonatal kittens and have two resident cats and a large dog. I like to introduce my older kittens to my resident pets after quarantine and shots, so that they are exposed to and socialized with other animals before going to their new homes.

My dog LOVES kittens and will sniff and snuggle with them. Sometimes he even licks them clean. My male cat HATES new animals in the house, so he doesn’t get introduced at all. My female cat is the reason I’m asking this question. She doesn’t love them, but doesn’t hate them either. Sometimes she hisses at them, but sometimes she’ll give them baths if they come up to her? I’m always wondering how to approach her with kittens and whether she’ll accept them or not. It’s so confusing because I can’t tell how she’ll react any given day, but she is so friendly and sweet with some of the kittens.

I feel that i’m wasting a socialization opportunity by not introducing her to kittens. I introduce my dog only in brief, controlled intervals because he’s so much bigger than kittens and I fear potential accidents, so I want a safe foster friend for these babies.

Has anyone managed to make their residents helpers?
