There’s actually no official mention of the word “chassis” by Sony . The letter used before the word chassis like “D chassis” or “E chassis”. Simply refers to different hardware revisions of the PS5.

For example, the original fat PS5 went through three revisions:

- CFI-10xx = A chassis

- CFI-11xx = B chassis

- CFI-12xx = C chassis

After those, Sony released the Slim model as the next major revision:

- CFI-20xx = D chassis

Then in 2025, the Slim itself received another hardware revision:

- CFI-21xx = E chassis

So basically, these chassis names are just labels used to identify different PS5 hardware revisions and generations more easily.
