Does anyone feel like this common experience of diaspora going back home and not feeling “accepted” by the locals doesn’t apply to Somalis?

Growing up in the UK, I’ve always heard British Caribbeans, Nigerians, Ghanaians etc talk about not being accepted/made to feel welcome whenever they go back to their parents/grandparents country by the locals and even sometimes extended family, which alienated them further from their roots and made them lean more towards this “Black British” identity.

However I’ve never really seen this phenomenon with Somalis or even heard about it.

I myself went to Borama for the first time at the age of 14 in 2011 and it was honestly one of the best experiences ever. I got to know so much about my culture/history and all the locals welcomed me with open arms.

I’m interested to know what your experiences were going back home for the first if you were raised in the west.

Is there a growing political divide between Somali men/women in the diaspora?

From what I’ve observed online and offline purely from my anecdotal experience:

A lot of Somali women tend to be pro-black/pan Africans/Anti Arab/Anti Salafi/Wahabbi etc , and a lot of Somali men tend to be the opposite.

Not saying anything’s wrong with any of these political stances (except I hate wahabbism) but it’s just something I’ve noticed.

Every single time I see Somalis online arguing about politics it seems to come to this growing divide.

Street code is dead because why is there a ‘no snitching’ rule but no “own up to it if you did it so your boy goes home free”
