How do you people back flush?

How do people back flush? Using the blank basket? Do you have a second portafikter? Do you keep changing the basket to backflush?

I use a plug that I got off Amazon, same as what breville gives you with their machines. I just use normal basket with the plug. Plug sits on top of my machine. It’s very convenient, and I don’t see any other method being a similar convenience (unless maybe had a dedicated blind basket portafilter).

What do you folks do?

Is the Silvia more grind dependant than a Linea micra?

I have been using a niche zero for my grinding needs for a long time. It’s dialed in with a Linea micra at grind setting 13, works great and is very consistent.

I refurbed my Silvia, set opv to 9 bar (280mls out of opv per minute) and I get a water debit of 110ml in ten seconds from the group.

Using the same grind settings on the Silvia with the same 18g basket, the Silvia is an absolute gusher. Again this same basket and grind and same beans ofcourse work great with the Micra, which has a water debit a bit lower than Silvia and it ofcourse holds at exactly 9 bar.

Is this normal from what people have found? I can ofcourse grind finer and moving grind setting 13 down to 7 or so gets r decent results from Silvia but I’m just wondering if it’s something else going on? Any suggestions? And yes workflow is same, weigh beans, use needle tool, double tamp with pressure tamper and use same puck screen.

Various water drips

Hello would just like some rebuild advise please.

I have a few small drips from joints after full rebuild. Steam valve, opv, solenoid, and boiler fully disassembled and new orings etc.

Upon reassembly, there’s a few leaks that I’d like some guidance on please.

Nipple between boiler and opv. Small drip. Has two washers inside and it lines up to where it should be when tight. Can I put thread tape on this joint?

Braided hose inlet to opv body. Again small drip coming from it. The cooper washer is in the opv body. Can I thread tape this braided hose thread?

Steam outlet seems to also have small leak leaving the boiler. I know I can’t thread tape this, what’s the course of action to tighten this fitting?

Thanks!

I’ve joined the fun

Hi, I got myself a pretty cheap 2016 Silvia. “Working condition” they said. First thing I did was open it up to see the boiler is leaking it seems. How bad do you folks suggest this normally is? I’m planning on opening it up and redoing it anyway. Just curious if there’s other things to look for when it gets to be like this. Thanks!

Xkah alternatives

Hello. I have converted to xkah and while I personally have not had issues with the device (touchwood) I know it’s probably the worst designed device for what its use case is and hence fails within months for a lot of people.

So my question is is there an alternate product, that’s a battery operated device that can sit on any hookah and operate? I can’t see myself ever going back to coals. Electric all the way for me.

Draining Micra steam boiler

Hello. I don’t use my steam boiler so it’s almost always off. The recommendation is to flush it out every month or so anyway. When I do do this, there is a crazy amount of steam that comes out, and sometimes I see water dripping from the back of the front brew chamber down the stainless back and into the drip tray. Today I took the top over off and it was absolute soaked with water in the brew chamber. The few exposed electrical connections had literally whole drops of water on them. Surely can’t be good?

Is there some other way this should be done? Kinda crazy it’s not sealed at the bottom so no steam goes back up into the internal components.

White knobs/paddle?

How come all colours come with black knobs and paddles? I’d like to see white/lighter colour plastics on the white machine for example. How come they don’t do that? Anyone know anywhere that sells such a thing? No I don’t want oak wood.
