Why must we be grateful to enjoy the "small moments of happiness"

A lot of times I hear how lovely it is to be alive because of the small moments of love and beauty along the way. But is this enough to justify living in the first place?

Are these temporary goods that we experience (in life) such as moments with family, laughter with friends or experiencing nature enough to justify the burden of continually having to live and strive?

Doesn’t the nature of those temporary goods depend largely on the final destination. For EXAMPLE, if you run a marathon the goods can be a runners high, cheering from the crowd or a refreshing break of water. But do those things in themselves justify running the marathon or why someone starts running in the first place. No. One runs it for the achievement, satisfaction and health rewards in the long run. In this example, the painful nature of the marathon is justified by the many positives aligned with the end result. That is not however the case with life. We on the other hand strive without choosing too and towards nothing in particular. In that case why are we supposed to be grateful for the small moments along the way. We are simply blindly striving for something that we will never attain (a lasting sense of contentment) by a force which we do not completely understand.

One may in contrary to this argue that some goods have value in themselves such as spending time with someone that you love. This can be viewed as something you do for its own sake rather than seeking encouragement for a larger reward. But is love something that is truly something you want to experience or is it simply a manifestation of your biological instincts with the eventual goal being to procreate and in turn propagate/ transfer this suffering to others in the long run? I also agree with Schopenhauer’s view on the fact that if we were properly in charge of our own intellect, we would choose people very different that the ones we fall in love with.

To conclude I do believe that we are simply blindly striving towards nothing in particular, against our will and experiencing a great deal of suffering across the way. And these small moments are nothing, but delusions created by those that are drunk on optimism to justify living by subverting our expectations towards the very nature of our existence.

This reality is truly worse than hell

Is it just me or is there a strange comfort in absolute certainty. Yeah, the idea of hell may seem horrific but at least you know exactly what your fate is and how things will play out.

We on the other hand are stranded on the verge of anticipation. Waiting for something that we have no control over. Does that not cause the most psychological suffering out of all things?

And the worst part of it all, we are given small fragments of hope. Hope that is just enough to keep us waiting but never enough for us to feel safe.

Picture this, isn't a person be more fearful when anticipating going to say prison rather than when they are already there. Is one not terrified at the possibility of a developing a medical condition rather than when they actually have it and when they can face it with certainty?

I truly believe that if the concept of "hell" is a possibility. Then we are already in it.

Also I am sorry if I could not articulate this well but its something that has been on my mind for quite some time now.

True happiness does not exist

I feel like whatever goals, dreams or hope we have in life are simply avenues of escape that the mind creates in order to get away from the underlying pain of existence.

I am not denying that the so called "Good moments" that exist. Like maybe some treasured memories with family, meeting friends or maybe just sitting in nature realizing how vast the world is.

But I also just think that because of moments such as these our mind latches on the the smallest bit of hope to justify living longer in this world. It tries to maybe convince us that all of this is worth it and that we are here for some purpose or objective. But i truly don't believe that that is the case

I do not think that we are here for absolutely any reason and I completely and whole heartedly believe that there is not a semblance of purpose in our life's.

I feel like no matter what you do and what you become, the very nature of existence is always accompanied with a sense of discomfort or dissatisfaction.

I'm sorry if i'm not able to express this feeling well in words but I do think human consciousness is truly a tragic misstep in human evolution. .

Isn't it weird that one moment you can be completely fine and the next you gasping for air, being tortured by never ending thoughts.

Just one of those days I guess
