Is Reddit useful for debating?

Is it true that Reddit maybe isn’t the best place to debate people on topics due to the karma system and the fact if people disagree you can get downvoted a lot and therefore harm your karma.
I think I may have screwed myself debating people in subreddits that are obviously opposed to my opinion I thought that was what the app was kind of for 😅😅.

Massage

I had a microdiscectomy 6 weeks ago and I went to a physio today for the first time. I’ve heard he is meant to be reputable so I assumed it to be safe. While there he put me through some exercises which I thought to be fairly standard glute bridges squats not going that deep hip extensions with a brush stick.
He then however did a massage that I thought to be a little intensive there was once during it I felt a small jolt of nerve pain and I’ve been relatively symptom free and the surgery seems to have worked well since I had it so I was concerned about that. He massaged over the scar and around it not with a lot of pressure but maybe 3-4/10 so I’m just wondering should I return to him or is he being too aggressive with his treatment and is a massage like this standard practice. It is a few hours since the session and I now have some odd feelings in my foot like a minor version of pins and needles is this standard after the first physio treatment or a sign to relax the treatment.

Weightlifting

I’m 21 and I had a microdiscectomy at l5-s1 3 weeks ago. Recovery has been really good so far I basically have no sciatica anymore when walking before I couldn’t walk for more then 5 minutes without getting really bad leg pain but now so far it seems to be limitless I can walk for 2-3 hours a day with no pain and that’s just what I’ve tested so far it probably is more. There is little pain around the surgical site also, I do notice however after days where I maybe walk more or even the really light physio exercises I was given for after surgery such as simply tensing my core or pelvic tilts if I do them slightly intensely my leg can the next morning feel a bit “nervey” like some slight weird sensations and maybe some small ache in the foot that tends to subside after moving a bit.

I lost a lot of muscle due to not being able to work out while I had the bulging disc and now three weeks out I’m looking at people on this subreddit etc saying that they weren’t able to start significant weight training until a whole year after surgery. That would be really difficult for me I’m scheduled to start physio at the 5 week mark but the idea of just doing crappy light exercises that won’t stimulate hypertrophy effectively at all for the next year is really depressing especially because recovery has been so good.

I don’t plan on doing any intense back loading exercises anymore the ones I believe may be the most intensive from what I plan are glute bridges or leg extensions or Bulgarian split squats but certainly not any deadlifting or back squats or overhead lifts.

Is there any hope that within 4 months or something I could be back to doing any level of significant weight training by leaving out the exercises which are heavy loading on the back so I can try to start gaining back my lost muscle.

I’d appreciate any answers even if it’s not what i want to hear. I just hope that I won’t have to be waiting for a year like some stories I’ve seen on here.

How can I get started playing live music?

I am a 21 year old lad from Cork and I’m just wondering what would be a good way to get going on playing some live music with others or even on my own and actually playing music in the real world. I can play and sing fairly well, I can sing the standard pub songs and stuff and play more complicated rock and metal solos if that would be worth something also. I can’t really jam I can improvise over backing tracks and stuff but not recognise chord progressions on the fly like people who jam do as I never played with others so if that’s something that people would recommend I learn I’d be open to that, also I have grade 8 done in the classical guitar if people think that could help me.

So ya just any advice would be appreciated basically just on maybe some first steps to take in getting out there and playing some live music or with others and what has worked for people who’ve done it👍.
