Broken valve cover bolt #1 2019 Kia Soul 2.0L

Hi everyone, So I was finishing up replacing my engine cover and torquing down the cover screws to spec when bolt #1 snapped. This is a 2019 kia soul 2.0L. I torqued between 7 and 8 ft lb. I would like to know what I should do. Thank you.

Valve Cover Replacement

Hi Fellow Soul-mates,

I am looking to do a number of repairs on my 2019 Soul Plus 2.0L. The first being a valve cover replacement. I could have changed the gasket, but the entire cover is only $30 more than the gasket and rings, so I decided to do the entire cover. Then spark plug and ignition coils.

Is there anything that I should be careful with regarding the engine cover replacement?

How much RTV should I be using and where?

Anything that I should be wary of regarding the spark plugs and ignition coils?

Thanks!

2019 Kia Soul + 2.0L Engine code and leak

Hi Everyone,

I have a couple of questions regarding a repair. So I have a 2019 Kia Soul Plus 2.0L GDI engine. It has 100,500 miles on it. It recently had a cylinder misfire and coded P0300 and P0301, it has been burning oil for the last 20,000 miles. I have replaced the pcv valve about 8,000 miles ago and the purge valve about 5,000 miles ago. It looks like cylinder 1 is leaking oil into the spark plug chamber. I ordered a new set of spark plugs and coils from Rock Auto, which I would like to install when they arrive and I debating on whether I should replace the valve cover gaskets & spark plug tube seals or replace the entire engine valve cover. The difference in cost is about $30, so I am leaning towards changing the engine valve cover. Of those two, which do you think is preferrable?

Also, I am looking to do the following, and I am wondering which order I should do them:

  • Engine Valve Cover or Valve Cover Gasket & Spark Plug Tube Seals

  • Spark Plugs and Coils

  • Oil Change

  • Rear Brakes

Thanks for all of your help!

Best Laptop For Prospective Engineering Students

Hi everyone,

Every year my physics students ask me for advice on laptops to bring for college, most of them are either going for engineering or computer science. They ask because I am a pc enthusiast that regularly gives pc build recommendations. However laptops are really tricky because you’re balancing so many different needs (performance vs battery vs build quality vs cost) and then there is the risk of it getting stolen. So I would love to know your thoughts on this.
