165000 miles with a replacement engine at 145000 miles and I found where all the coolant was going. Cylnder 4 was thirsty. I was hoping to get at least another 100k out of it.
Hi everyone, So I was finishing up replacing my engine cover and torquing down the cover screws to spec when bolt #1 snapped. This is a 2019 kia soul 2.0L. I torqued between 7 and 8 ft lb. I would like to know what I should do. Thank you.
She just got tinted and cross bars yesterday 😎 probably going back to get a windshield strip
Hey guys, do you know what this noise might be? Comes on randomly, doesn’t matter if it’s in drive or park. Car only has 7k miles. It this some sensor or safety feature i’m not aware of?
Bought a 2019 Soul back in very beginning of 2020.
It was an awesome car for about a year. Then I started having issues.
Tires: kept wearing down with minimal use. Sounds crazy but I would go out one day, and boom tires flat. No nail, no puncture, didn’t run over or hit anything. Random flatness
Engine: Sputtering everywhere, you name it it’s probably done it there. Wasn’t happening much back in 2021,2022 but starting about mid 2023 it started being more noticeable. Hard brake here
Car randomly just shuts off at a red light with the car still in drive and flashing almost every light on the dashboard.
Oil consumption: My soul (haha) eats oil like it needs it for a 1000 person party (weird analogy sorry) it gussels oil like no tomorrow. Every maybe 100 miles to about 400 miles I’m almost on E with oil. Burns oil? Maybe, leaking oil? I don’t even see oil on the ground.
Gas pedal: somehow when my car has “phantom braking” is when my car skips a beat like I step on the gas ( not to go really fast normal speeding up) like to go onto the interstate or pulling out safely but quickly into traffic my car stutters or struggles to pull the pressure to go. It skips, so when I apply gas it won’t go. So I release and reapply pressure, the car then feels like it overcompensates for not going the first time and revs really hard then essentially “break checks” itself causing a jerk back. Sometimes when this happens. I’ll slightly add pressure and nothing works. Revs the RPMS up to about 5 or 6, but my speed doesn’t change. I could be getting on interstate and needing to get up to 70mph but the car is going at 6-7 RPMS but the car is only at about 47 mph WITH constant an progressing pressure in the pedal.
Entertainment system: My entertainment system has gone out, blew a fuse, static tv’ed itself. And has now blown my back speakers. I don’t listen to insanely loud music I enjoy slightly louder than usual music but not the ones you’d hear shaking your car at a red light. There will be times I’m at a red light and the system starts flashing, volume goes out, or completely just resets itself.
A/c: Very current issue. The ac will now not work at setting 1 or 2, 3 is a slightly louder version to setting 4. The only ones that “really” works. I understand it’s summer, but an ac should keep the car “cool” even on like 2 or 3.
There’s a lot my issues to the car right now. But right now.
The car is paid off
No accidents (no reported ones, 2 unconfirmed accidents. Only cosmetic damage and a broken gas gauge was the only thing that happened)
I’ve taken it to the shop so many times
Extended warranty is in place till 103,000 miles
Currently standing at close to 77,000 miles
Current on oil checks and everything. Thank you an sorry for the long post.
Heres 2 videos with the current problem I’m having. Posted below
they got to my car and two others... thankfully i had the ignition upgrade but does anyone know how much the repair could cost me?
I’m wondering if anyone else has an issue with the gas sensor being inaccurate on their Kia. I filled up my gas tank yesterday & at first it was showing me my range (about 300 miles) and then it was blinking and signaling I had no gas. This morning the check engine light came on and this is the code that came up when scanned. Wondering what to do.
Are there any other options when replacing a 2015 Kia soul base model engine? Any one try any other manufacturer engines like a suburu for example. After 180,000 miles it’s getting close to done and is just burning up catalytic converters. The recall from 2019, because I did that makes it ineligible for the other recall to replace the engine from what I have been told.
So I always just go based on my mileage. Which has me coming in around 8-10 months. I have a 2022 kia soul. And i believe the it says to come in every 5k miles every 6 months. I got my car December 2021 and I’m at about 36,500 miles for reference.
I took apart the side mirror of my 2013 soul trying to find where a clicking noise was coming from.
Figured out the noise but now I can’t figure out how to put it back together.
I’ve tried searching for videos but everything I found is for replacing the whole mirror.
Please help!
2015 base model, 1.6l gdi engine with 115,772km on it.
Third time this code has come up since I bought it in March. I ran cataclean through it and the code came back. Test has been 91.7% every time it comes up (it will come up if it’s under 95%).
Last oil change was in February when it was traded in, and I’ve driven 1500km since then. I don’t think I’m burning oil based on the dipstick.
We haven’t taken it to a mechanic yet. The previous owner changed the fuel injectors in December. They also replaced the oxygen sensors and spark plugs in November.
Not sure what to try next. I have plenty of power, no trouble starting or getting up to speed, even on hills. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I’m looking at a 2015 soul with 101,000 miles And the 2.1L engine. It was well taken care of by an elderly couple, in visible mint condition but will be doing a test drive and will check out all the standard stuff. They had it posted for 5k but I talked them down to 4.5. I’m just wanting something my wife can drive 20 miles to work, so on average 40 miles a day. I’ve never owned a Kia before to give you insight into my knowledge of them.
We bought a 2020 Kia Soul brand new. My wife had a 2010 that was still running and it was a great car, but wanted something newer and the financing was great at 0%.
Two weeks ago while driving home from visiting family the engine started surging, it felt like a rocking motion and the RPMs flickered up and down. As she went to exit the highway to the nearest exit she had her foot down on the pedal but it was barely responding although not revving high. We pulled over and let it rest for about 10 minutes - I took the driver seat and it had no issues. 20km later it started again and as I got off the in the next exit it started revving high.
We managed to get it to a mechanic but since it was Sunday night it was closed. We managed to make it back home thanks to her parents and left the car there (about 250km away). They ran a diagnosis saying it was a transmission issue and should go to the dealer. I called one in the city near to the town the car was currently in and explained the issue. He said it sounded like engine rather than transmission and even looked up the VIN to tell us there were two recalls that may be applicable.
The next day we had it towed to the nearest dealer (not the one I had called as the tow was nearly $200 more for that location) for them to wait three days to finally check it and tell us it needed a new transmission. With the option of a used transmission for $5300, or new one at $11,000.
We decided to cut our losses and get a Toyota. This past Saturday we went to Kia to sign over the ownership and pick up the $2500 cheque they had for the car. I asked about the receipt from the first garage who did the diagnosis as it wasn’t on the passenger seat where they said it would be. The service manager said he had it and went to retrieve it. He said he wanted to keep the receipt to which I said no. Before handing it to me he said he would make a copy to which I objected; I paid for the diagnosis, it’s my receipt and they had allegedly already done their own diagnosis with their mechanics although he had no paperwork for that.
My suspicion is they didn’t even look at our car and relied on the other garage’s code reader which may have been as simple as a damaged solenoid, but by then we’d already bought a new car. It still bugs me that they probably didn’t bother doing anything and that we may have been covered by the TSB. It’s a moot point now, but still.
Our Soul was 5 years and 11 months with 96K km on the odometer.
Screw Kia and Smith Falls Kia in particular.
Update (7/1)— we got confirmation yesterday that we were getting a new engine (under the extended warranty). We went to the dealership today to get some more stuff out of our car and to talk to them about next steps and now we are currently sitting in a loaner 26 Seltos until ours comes back.
Ironically, my (retired) parents loaned us their (essentially) newish MY 23 Hyundai Tuscon (26,000 miles). I was about two miles from my house yesterday, on my out of town for work when the check engine light came on and the infotainment system told me a system malfunction was detected and I needed to take the car for inspection TODAY (their emphasis). Took it in and apparently they have a cooling system malfunction.
I’m not sure what I did in a past life to create a beef with Korean powertrains, but here we are…. Hopeful the seltos behaves until my toaster is returned!

2021 soul ex — 106,000 miles.
We bought her brand new, meticulous maintenance (other than tires—maintenance even completed at the dealership where it was bought). We noticed issues and had oil consumption tests back in late 2023/early 2024 and everything “was within our normal levels”. Got recall tested (no issues) and the software update in May of last year. In the meanwhile, checked the oil ourselves approx every 1,000 and added as/if needed.
Last oil change was in May of last month and less than 2,500 miles later—without any other notification/issue— suddenly flashing engine light and limp mode activated. Went about 3 miles to get someplace safe, checked the oil and bone dry. Added a qt, pulled the car from the gas pump where we pulled in to the parking spot next to it and waited 45 minutes before rechecking— still essentially bone dry. Got her towed to the dealership and we begin the process of getting the diagnosis tomorrow.
I’m hoping with the fact that we have all of the records (and I mean all but one receipt—we even have the window stickers still 🤣 ) that this is as a easy process as it can be. Obviously it could be something else, clearly, but if it quacks like a duck….
