I modded an old mouse to physically feel in-game directional audio cues

Experimental prototype I’ve been building.

It listens to stereo in-game audio and converts directional events into left/right haptic feedback directly on the mouse shell.

Current tests include footsteps, gunshots and reload sounds in FPS games.

Still very early, but I wanted to see if this concept actually feels useful in real gameplay.

Curious what mouse modders think. I'll keep posting updates as the prototype evolves.

Turned my Logitech M280 into a directional haptic mouse for FPS games

Been experimenting with an idea recently.

I modified an old Logitech M280 and attached two small vibration modules on the left and right side.

The prototype reads directional audio/event signals from recorded Call of Duty gameplay, then triggers left or right side haptic feedback depending on where in-game actions are happening.

So for example:

- gunfire/explosion on the left → left side vibration

- action on the right → right side vibration

Still very early prototype and the wiring looks terrible right now lol.

I mainly wanted to test whether directional haptic feedback on a mouse could add another layer of spatial awareness in FPS games.

Curious what people here think.

Would something like this actually feel useful while gaming?
