July 5, 1997. John Andretti wins the Pepsi 400 and notches his first career Winston Cup victory as well as the first victory for Cale Yarborough Motorsports.

Ernie Irvan during the 1992 Save Mart 300K. Ernie qualified 2nd, but was black flagged for jumping the start. Despite this, Irvan fought his way through the field and made a pass for first with eight laps to go and won the race.

June 19, 1949. NASCAR holds its very first race in the Strictly Stock series at the 3/4 mile Charlotte Speedway. Bob Flock sits on the pole, but its Glenn Dunaway finishes first. During post-race inspection, Dunaway's car is discovered to have illegal springs, and Jim Roper is declared the winer.

Roper drove a '49 Lincoln that day.

William Shatner was a guest of Dale Earnhardt and his team at the '92 Champion Spark Plug 500 at Pocono. Unfortunately, Captain Kirk forgot to bring along Scotty and Earnhardt's car developed engine problems relegating him to a 28th place finish.

Richard Petty in the pits during the 1974 Purolator 500 at Pocono. This was Pocono's first NASCAR sanctioned race and Petty won it. Petty had won at Pocono the previous year in a USAC sanctioned stock car race as well.

Kyle Petty after winning the 1987 Coke 600. A brutal battle of attrition, Kyle was the only one left on the lead lap when the checkered flag flew. Morgan Shepherd, Lake Speed, Richard Petty, and Darrell Waltrip round out the top-five.

Davey Allison after winning the '93 Pontiac Excitement 400 at Richmond. Davey led 155 of 400 laps en route to what would be his final victory. Rounding out the top five were Rusty Wallace, Alan Kulwicki, Dale Jarrett, and Kyle Petty.

May 17, 1997. Jeff Gordon wheels T-Rex to a victory at the '97 The Winston. Following the race, Bill France Jr. told Ray Evernham not to bring the car back to the track.

Kyle Petty picking up the win at the 1995 Miller Genuine Draft 500 at Dover. Kyle started 37th, led 271 laps, and held off a charging Bobby Labonte and Ted Musgrave to pick up his 8th and final Winston Cup win.

It was the first race on Dover's concrete surface and everyone was concerned about tire wear. Crew chiefs were sending their crews out to other teams to haggle and deal for new sets of tires during the race.

Marcos Ambrose celebrates after his first career Sprint Cup Series victory at Watkins Glen in 2011. Ambrose had to outduel Brad Keselowski in the final two laps of the race.
