Why is finding remittance users harder than building the app 😭

Is it weird that finding people for genuine user research feels harder than building the product itself?

I’ve been researching the US to Philippines remittance space and trying to speak with Filipinos in the US who send money back home regularly.

Honestly surprised at how difficult (and expensive) it is just to have real conversations with users. We have used reddit for open research and now using User interview platform which is so freaking expensive

If you use Wise, Remitly, or any similar app would genuinely love to hear about your experience.

Vietnamese people in the US

Okay genuine question : )

For Vietnamese people living in the US - what’s the MAIN reason you usually send money back home and which app do you mostly use ?

I’m currently studying remittance behaviour across different communities, and honestly the best insights come from real people instead of boring reports.

Would genuinely love to hear your stories.

Honest question for people who send money to Vietnam what actually frustrates you about it?

Hi I work in user research at a remittance app and want to be transparent about that upfront. I'm not selling anything or pitching a product.

I'm trying to understand the real pain points that people experience sending money to Vietnam from USA things that are annoying but maybe too small to bother writing a review about.

Curious about:

  • Which app or service do you use, and what made you stick with it?
  • What's one thing you wish worked differently?
  • Do you ever send through informal channels (family friends, etc.) instead of apps and if so, why?

Cảm ơn in advance genuinely appreciate any honest thoughts

Do y’all actually check remittance exchange rates or just trust the app?

At this point y’all probably will wonder I work in remittance research/product because of how much I keep posting about money transfers 💀

But honestly that’s exactly why I’m curious about this.

When choosing a remittance app/service, what do you ACTUALLY care about first?

  • No transfer fee = I’m using it
  • I check exchange/conversion rates every time
  • If the transfer is fast, I don’t overthink it
  • I trust whatever friends/family recommend
  • I only compare rates for big transfers

Because from a lot of conversations I’ve had, it seems like many people don’t even check the actual PHP conversion rate as long as:
no fee
fast transfer
money arrives safely

Now I genuinely want to know if that’s actually true for most people or if my research sample is just chaotic : )

No right/wrong answers btw this is genuinely interesting to me.

I was helping a Filipino friend figure out which app to use for sending money back home, and I realized I don’t fully understand how these apps work either.

We checked Google and saw something like $1 = 61.59 PHP, but then every app we opened had a lower rate. I get that they charge somewhere, but it’s not very transparent whether it’s fees or the exchange rate.

So I’m curious from people who actually do this regularly:

  • Which app do you use and why?
  • How close is the rate you get vs the Google rate?
  • If you want the transfer to be instant or same-day, how much do you usually pay extra?

Trying to help them pick something reliable without losing too much on fees/rates.

Would appreciate any real experiences

I’m looking to speak with people who have experience sending money internationally (especially to the Philippines) We’ll talk about apps/services you’ve used, fees, speed, and overall experience

No strict requirements - if you’ve ever sent money to Philippines , you’re likely a good fit.

This is purely for research, here is the form link - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSftL14SkzUpx2JquYSECkESUzjjcoJ6ZyC_G6U-UT9Hqj37PQ/viewform?usp=header

Thanks

For the people using Wise/Remitly for a while now. Genuinely curious - does the amount your family actually receives match what the app promised at checkout? Because I feel like there's always some gap. Also- what made you pick your current app?
Asking because I've been on this for a while and genuinely want to understand where the friction actually is - not from a blog post, but from people who actually send money every month.
