Some interesting hindsight in Varre's dialogue

> I wish to anoint you a proper inductee. > "A knight to serve Luminary Mohg, the Lord of Blood, and establish a new dynasty."

> Luminary Mohg has strength, vision, and of course, love.

> So, what do you say, my lambkin?

> Ahh, it is trying, but we must be patient. One day, you will be elevated, deservedly, basking in love.

> Right, my lambkin?

> Ha ha ha...

> Please, answer me...Luminary...Mohg.

> ...

> A-ahh...

> Bless the Mohgwyn Dynasty, with love!

The Temple Quarter region is a dumping spot for environmental foreshadowing

In this area you'll find:

  • A group of Albinaurics lined up to watch the Rose Church, ready to jump in and beat you if you get close while fighting the Sanguine Noble.
  • A chest with the Icerind Hatchet, not far from a dead Albinauric in a ring of flowers, with a Rimed Crystal Bud.
  • A bundle of St. Trina's Lillies, with a Blood Rose slightly obscured behind.
  • A bundle of Miquella's Lilies, with a Blood Rose slightly obscured behind.
  • A large congregation of octopi.
  • A large congregation of Miranda that have adapted to the environment.

Farum Azula: One of those "Duh" Moments

I often point to a bunch of context clues for why Farum Azula was always in the sky, but I stumbled upon a post where someone was confused about a particular weapon's stats, and realized it's plainly indicated with a single description, with zero need for inference.

Dragon Halberd/Dragonscale Blade

> Alas, the Dragonkin Soldiers never attained immortality, and perished as decrepit, pale imitations of their skyborn kin.

Which aspects of the DLC can you construct a theory for without acknowledging the existence of the DLC?

As in, using only the base game's items/dialogue/interviews/etc., a believable theory could be constructed for something that is revealed or happens in the DLC.

I'll take the easiest (and already existed pre-DLC) ones off the table as examples:

  1. Based on the text of the Bewitching Branch, and Malenia/Miquella's followers patiently waiting for his return, Mohg has probably been charmed.
  2. Based on the description of St. Trina being of ambiguous gender, it being normal for young childrens' genders to be mistaken, the sharing of lilies between Miquella and St. Trina, and Fevor's (follower of St. Trina) Cookbook[3] providing the recipe for Bewitching Branches, Miquella and St. Trina are probably the same person in some capacity.

And I'll add one.

Based on:

  • The "Three Sisters".
  • The references to a plurality of Carian princesses, despite Rennala being the first queen and only having one daughter.
  • The implication that Sellen is Carian, due to her painting, and her fate being tied to the stars.
  • The placement of Aurelia, Aureliette, and a Primal Glintstone Blade with a lock of black hair attached, not far from the painting related to Rennala's Moon ("Yes, surely this is the moon that young Rennala gazed upon." - Greathood), particularly in the mountaintops, where Rennala would've discovered it in her youth.
  • The separation of Aurelia and Aureliette.

It's likely that the Three Sisters refers to the siblings; Rennala, Sellen and a long lost or dead Carian Princess.

Melina's Particles

Starting up a new run, I went through the normal talks with Melina and Ranni.

You'd expect of all the particle effects to use for spirits vanishing, Ranni's would be blue, and golden is appropriate for Morgott and his manifestations, but Melina's should be golden too, yet they're blue.

Why Mohg does it

It's clearly established throughout the DLC that Miquella's charm does not compel action, but rather inhibits it.

For example, Hornsent remains skeptical and conditionally loyal to Miquella. His tendency to carry out vengeance against us is suppressed, but not the resentment.

Likewise, Thiollier remains devoted to St. Trina, and doesn't present any strong feelings towards Miquella. His focus is mimicking her velvet. However he is prevented finding and possibly rescuing her.

So, then, why is Mohg feeding blood to the cocoon if not compelled to?

Simply, because it is a plausible means of achieving the goal, as long as Miquella hides critical information from him.

The Divine Gate is, after all, a stockpile of the dead that produces gods.

In short, Mohg is creating a new Divine Gate to allow Miquella to ascend.

But it is not possible because if all that was needed is the amassing of blood/bodies, every Graven Mass, Living Jar, Eternal City, Tutelary Deity, Minor Erdtree, the Abyssal Serpent, and Rykard would be an upstart gate.

There's something specific to the gate that only Miquella knows, and by withholding that, and perhaps suppressing Mohg's ability to realize it, Mohg is indefinitely waiting to be killed, just as Radahn is.

I would find it very pleasing if

We got a first person dungeon crawler SMT that included various walls that you need to repeatedly bump into to reveal they're illusory.

Red Glintstone and Red Amber Catalogue: It takes a village to find all of these, where are they?

This catalogue, as the title implies, has two categories. Red Glintstone; that which can reasonably be assumed to be the result of sacrifices, and Red Amber; that which can reasonably be assumed to be crystalized sap from the Erdtree, worn or inlaid by its faithful. Brief reasoning will be provided per item.

The explanatory examples are (1) Alberich's Set and (2) Crimson Amber Medallion:

> (1) Set with red glintstones said to be formed by the blood of sacrifices.

> (2) A medallion with crimson amber inlaid. Raises maximum HP.

> The Erdtree's old sap becomes amber, treasured as the most precious of jewels in the age of Godfrey, the first Elden Lord.

> A primordial life energy resides inside.

Red Glintstone:

  • Spear of the Impaler. The three red gems are assumed red glintstone as it was reforged in the Realm of Shadow, where we have the hexes of the furnace.
  • Gelmir Glintstone Staff and Magma Blade. Originating from a place of both mass sacrifice and hexes, these needs no further elaboration.
  • Family Heads. As a fellow rediscoverer of hexes, and owner of a cave full of ties to Rykard, the red gem in this weapon is likely red glintstone.
  • Blasphemous Blade. See the last two items.
  • Hoslow's Petal Whip and Armor. While this could be sap, the Hoslow house being outside TLB, and the fate of their lineage being tied to bloodshed leads me to believe these are red glintstones.
  • Bloody Helix, Sanguine Noble Robe and Hood, Ansbach's Attire, and Lord of Blood's Robe. Another sacrifice heavy faction, this time heavily focused on blood in particular.
  • Royal Remains Set. This is rather uncertain, but an "ancient lord", heavily implied to be a former leader of TWLID, would come before the Erdtree could produce sap, and in a time when hexes thrived.
  • Bat Harpy and the more regal version. Thanks to /u/TyrionBananaster. These dames wield Death Rancor, from the Death hexes and tend to hang around Rauh structures.
  • Smithing Golem. Similarly linked to Rauh, and directly to the furnaces.

Red Amber:

  • Carian Knight Set. Aside from Rykard (a non-royal anyway), the Carians don't seem to engage in sacrifice, but they are under the Erdtree banner and have chalices for sap in the region.
  • Malenia's Armor, thanks to /u/gwynsenknight I believe. Again, no sacrifice and under the Erdtree banner, at least in public.
  • Nomadic Merchant Set. Probably common amber gems obtained through legitimate business.
  • Official's Attire/Marais Robe, Ruler's Robe, Upper-Class Robe, Page Garb. General Erdtree elite wear.
  • Jar Shamans. Being connected to the early Erdtree, perhaps they were given these amber bracelets to improve their vigor, ensuring they survive to rehabilitate the criminals.

More than usual, I'm certain many examples are missing. Hopefully we can cover them all in the comments.

Note: I left out the obvious red Crystal Tears, Crimson Tears, etc.,

Secondary question: Some time back, someone had a good logic for why people are wearing green sap (Stamina), is there any trend in wearing red sap or red glintstone?
