Using incidental travel credit on award flights
I was hoping to use the $100 American Airlines gift card I got last year (using the BofA card) for a mileage ticket I'm buying ($100 departure tax on international flight, part of the fare), but there's no slot available to pay with a gift card (just credit cards and Apple pay).
So I'm wondering if I bought a seat upgrade and paid for the flight ($100 departure tax/fees plus seat upgrade) with the BA card, would this be covered?
(award tickets - Not covered, seat upgrades - Are covered)
Is Bank of America somehow able to discern what's a seat upgrade and what's a fee/tax when they're part of a purchase?
They must know if a ticket is an award flight, maybe coded differently? Or just the dollar amount, in which case a $100 ticket could be a cash ticket not an award ticket.
Or is anything to do with award flights a no go? A seat upgrade is a seat upgrade, so should be covered even on an award flight, right?
