Intentional employment break in order to focus on learning the language?

I'm an embedded systems dev with 9 y.o. Here in Germany the vast majority (85%?) of embedded jobs seem to be either explicitly only in German or at least require German B1/B2. I guess embedded / hardware being a more slow, traditional company field is to blame for that. This means that at any given time there are only 1-2 suitable-ish job postings in my area each month.

I'm pretty unhappy with my current employer and am passively looking at my options. The original plan is to be applying to those English-only positions but I'm seriously starting to consider taking a work break for focused German study and then be able to apply for the whole range of jobs in the embedded space, not only the English-based ones. The Goethe Institute estimates that 6 months of full-ish time German study would put me at B1/B2 level in half a year.

Has anyone done anything like that? Any thoughts / nuggets of wisdom?

Cyan's support ignoring my missing Firament kickstarter download code

Apologies for a bit of a off-Myst-topic but I'm at a bit of a loss

Long story short I have contributed to the kickstarter for Firmament (back when the crowdfunding was hosted on fangamer I believe). Because I chose to have the game in a PS5 variety, and because that release happening a long time after the crowdfunding has completed, I have missed the "click here to claim your download code" email in my mailbox when it arrived a many many months later (over a year? two years?).

And guess what. When I did eventually find it (after actively searching my inbox because I just remembered that I ordered it so long ago) it turns out that the link to claim my download code is expired. So there is no way for me to download this code.

Their kickstarter update says that the deadline for redemption of digital rewards will be in 2028 and that ppl should contact support@cyan.com if they are missing anything. Except... they seem to ignore the emails I send there.

I sent one 2 months ago and a month ago - both are left unanswered. So are all the messages I sent them over 2 months ago on various social media platforms where they have any presence.

Has anyone had any similar problems?

Recommendation *against* Dodo socks - horrible shipping/duty policies

I ordered a bunch of socks from them seeing them recommended by a friend and the internet. I thought it was also nice to be able to support an Ukrainian company and stuff manufactured in Europe with cute designs.

But I cannot recommend them. After waiting for my order for two months, I just got an email that I'm being issued a refund. But because of the currency conversions involved, I'm actually receiving 40% less money than I paid (about 15 EUR). Apparently this was because the parcel was returned to them, which is baffling as I never got any notice of it being attempted to be delivered in the first place. I can only assume it was returned due to a problem with customs.

Chatting with their customer service they claim that there is nothing they can do. I asked if they are not able to just send the order again, perhaps to a different address, and that I would be happy to cover the shipping as even that would be less that the 15EUR I'm losing for no reason. But no, it's just an automatic refund, which makes you lose money on currency conversions.

I wanted to love them so badly. A friend of mine has some that she bought a while ago and I couldn't wait to get mine. But yeah, I don't think I can recommend them. I won't be trying to order again.
