Fleshing out a story idea related to grief
So, I've started writing a story involving a woman in a coma, living in a "dream world." She knows she's in a coma, but despite the efforts her late mom, recently deceased, and a couple of relatives in her mind as well as the real world efforts of those who are left, she doesn't want to leave. She knows she needs to leave this world, but her grief, a feeling of safety in this world, etc. seem to keep her there.
That is the basics of the story. However, I'm trying to flesh out ways of not making the dream world too cliche, etc. I'm not necessarily trying to make a world that is fantastical (love those stories, though). I'm also trying not to make a dream world like >!Archer did in seasons 8-10. (still love those seasons).!<
The biggest thing is this is an exploration of grief and how not dealing with it can hurt many people, including the one grieving. (Writing this story is part of my grieving process after losing my mom back last Fall.)
What are your thoughts? Any and all advice is welcome.
